🧵1/3 Hovering Kan-Too (Flying Red Mountain) is a showroom for the Great Bay Area Center, designed by @WutopiaLab and completed in July 2022 on Ma’an Island, Zhongshan, Guangdong. Positioned at the western gateway of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, the project challenges conventional real estate marketing typologies through the concept of a “Big Dumb Object” (BDO), a singular architectural gesture designed to convey ambition and permanence. Set within a diamond-shaped plot, the hexagonal volume rises 21 meters while containing only two and a half floors. Its chamfered form responds to local mountain contours, while the translucent PTFE façade, with varying porosity, references traditional Chinese window coverings made of silk and paper, producing soft, filtered light within.

🧵1/3 @WutopiaLab unveils the Emerald Screen Pergola, a 1.2-kilometer-long architectural installation meandering through Bogong Island Ecology Park in Wuxi, China. Inspired by the classical Chinese garden element known as the “flower trellis,” the structure reinterprets a fading typology through contemporary design. Constructed from round steel and feather-like white steel mesh, the semi-transparent corridor forms a light, flowing spatial experience, referencing both traditional craftsmanship and natural form. The interplay of light and shadow, structure and void, evokes the motion of a dragon dance, hence the name, a wandering dragon-like Emerald Screen Pergola.

The Ripple Pavilion, designed by @WutopiaLab, in Guangdong, China, creates a “ripple” effect on the soil by the Mulberry Pond. The highlighted roof contrasts with the reduced presence of façades, thereby eliminating the mismatch between ripple curves and straight lines. 📸 Wu Siming #parametricarchitetcure #parametricdesign #pavilion #china #ripple

3/3 This design creates a visual focal point that integrates nature with space and fosters various cultural activities related to flowers, making it a significant cultural symbol preserved in traditional Chinese paintings.
