Hovering Kan-Too (Flying Red Mountain) is a showroom for the Great Bay Area Center, designed by
@WutopiaLab and completed in July 2022 on Ma’an Island, Zhongshan, Guangdong. Positioned at the western gateway of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, the project challenges conventional real estate marketing typologies through the concept of a “Big Dumb Object” (BDO), a singular architectural gesture designed to convey ambition and permanence. Set within a diamond-shaped plot, the hexagonal volume rises 21 meters while containing only two and a half floors. Its chamfered form responds to local mountain contours, while the translucent PTFE façade, with varying porosity, references traditional Chinese window coverings made of silk and paper, producing soft, filtered light within.
