We evaluated
@10ZiGTechnology Zero Clients (NOS 16.5.39.x) for Azure Virtual Desktop. Here's our experience after several weeks of intensive POC:
๐ด AVD session stability: Up to 12 disconnects per day โ fully reproducible, regardless of UDP/TCP settings, MTU, or firewall configuration. Same user, same switchport, same AVD environment: IGEL LX60 ran flawlessly. 10ZIG did not.
๐ด Teams background blur & virtual backgrounds: Not supported on NOS. No release date provided. Reason given: waiting for Microsoft SlimCore certification. IGEL delivers this today, standard-compliant via the official MS RDCore Linux SDK.
๐ก To their credit: 10ZIG reproduced the disconnect bug internally and provided a beta firmware. It remained unstable under real production workloads, while being stable on a low-usage IT test device.
When I proposed switching to a Windows IoT-based device as a constructive way forward, 10ZIG unilaterally terminated the POC, three sentences, no discussion. This for a potential rollout of several hundred clients.
For IT admins currently evaluating Zero Clients for AVD: IGEL outperformed 10ZIG in every category in our direct head-to-head comparison. HP ThinPro is our next test.
