Amazon Deploys 1 Million Robots; New AI Manages Fleet Amazon has reached a milestone of one million robots deployed across its warehouse network, the company announced on Monday. The millionth robot was delivered to a fulfillment center in Japan. This deployment puts the company on track to potentially have an equal number of robots and human employees in its warehouses. Currently, robots assist in 75% of the company’s global deliveries. The company is also releasing a new generative AI model called DeepFleet to manage its warehouse robots. DeepFleet, built using Amazon SageMaker and trained on the company’s warehouse data, is designed to coordinate robot routes more efficiently, which the company projects will increase the speed of its robotic fleet by 10%. The company has been improving its robotic capabilities in recent years, adding new models with enhanced features. In May, the company introduced Vulcan, a robot with two arms: one for rearranging inventory and another equipped with a camera and suction cup for grabbing items. These Vulcan robots also have a sense of touch, allowing them to feel the items they are handling. In October 2024, the company announced plans for “next-generation fulfillment centers” that will include ten times as many robots as current facilities, alongside human workers. The first of these new centers opened shortly after in Shreveport, Louisiana.
