Dear Senator Gillibrand, OH WOW, you just accidentally proved EXACTLY why the government is shut down! Thank you for that brilliantly ironic demonstration of constitutional ignorance! Let me break this down for someone who apparently skipped the day they covered Article I in civics class: President Trump CAN'T "lift a finger to make your life more affordable" until YOU pass a bill. That's literally YOUR job description, Senator. YOURS. Not his. Want to know where you can find your job responsibilities? Try Article I of the Constitution—that's the part about CONGRESS. You know, the branch that actually controls the purse strings and writes legislation? The branch YOU work for? If you're wondering what Trump is actually responsible for (hint: signing YOUR passed bills), you can find that in Article II. It's this whole separation of powers thing the Founders designed specifically to prevent one branch from doing whatever it wants. So when you complain that "President Trump has the power to end this," what you're REALLY saying is "I don't understand how my own job works." Trump cannot end this until YOU—yes YOU, Senator—do your constitutionally mandated duty and pass a bill through Congress. This isn't rocket science. It's basic constitutional government. But apparently understanding the fundamental structure of the government you're supposed to be serving in is too much to ask. Maybe instead of tweeting misleading garbage designed to confuse people who also don't understand civics, you could actually READ the job description outlined in Article I and DO YOUR JOB. Just a thought from someone who actually understands how the three branches of government work. #ReadTheConstitution #ArticleI #DoYourJob #SeparationOfPowers #CivicsLesson #CongressPassesBills #PresidentSignsThem #BasicGovernment

We are not a direct (or "pure") democracy, but we the people do govern ourselves via elected officials (representative democracy). #civics101 #basicGovernment
