1,960 Hectares of Blue Forest Rising: Kenya’s Mangrove Miracle 💙
Before ➡️ After
Nature heals when we act together.
In Gazi, Vanga, and Mwache, the coastline is coming back to life. Where bare mudflats once stood, thriving mangrove forests now stretch across 1,960 hectares proof that community-led and scientifically guided conservation works.
🌱 52 hectares rehabilitated through enrichment planting — community hands restoring coastlines
🌿 1,908 hectares regenerating naturally — nature responding to protection
🌍 1,960 hectares in total — a blue forest reborn in Kwale County
Mangroves are coastal superheroes:
🌀 Shielding communities from storms and erosion
💨 Storing up to five times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests
🐟 Serving as breeding grounds for fish and marine life
🌾 Creating livelihoods through effective restoration and eco-enterprises
This transformation was made possible through the International Climate Initiative (
@iki_germany ) of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment (@BMUV), via
@WWF_Deutschland , in partnership with Kenya’s coastal communities and the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (
@KmfriResearch ).
From degraded shores to thriving blue forests this is what happens when people, nature and purpose come together. 🌊💚
