This video is for all my friends out there who have little ones on how to create safe conditions between toddlers and dogs.
This is me teaching notoriously bossy cattledogs that they have to be gentle, they have to wait.
This isn't a baby cow to boss, and they can't just go steal food from the baby.
It's teaching the little one how to safely share, the dogs names, colors and a positive association.
I'm in charge, my energy is relaxed.
This is all important because at each stage dogs need to understand their roles, especially working dogs.
Don't start when the kids are running through the house getting nipped, that's when most incidents tend to happen, and dogs end up in rescue.
Instead you create systems of control and safety early.
The only reason I felt comfortable doing this is because they had shown the restraint necessary over many months.
Not all dogs are like this. Nor should all dogs be around kids in this way.
Safety first always.
The dingoes did not eat my baby and she is now a teenager lol. Petey and Adelaide both passed on, but Adelaide proved herself an exceptional nurse dog.
She used to follow her around and bump her in the butt if she had a dirty diaper🤣 played the gentlest fetch with any toy. Cleaned around her highchair like a hoover.
Dogs and kids are great, I like to joke that's why mine have exceptional immune systems, but you do need to put in the work!
