IIT Roorkee is proud to share that Dr. Ruchir Patidar, PhD alumnus of the Department of Water Resources Development and Management (WRDM), IIT Roorkee, and currently Scientist at the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, has been conferred the prestigious Hugh Robert Mill Award for Precipitation Research 2025 by the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), UK.
The award recognises his doctoral research at IIT Roorkee, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Deepak Khare, on precipitation variability and drought dynamics across India's agro-climatic zones, which has contributed valuable insights towards climate resilience, drought monitoring, and sustainable water resources management.
Notably, Dr. Patidar is the first Indian scientist to receive this distinguished award since its inception in the 1950s.
Congratulating Dr. Patidar, Prof. K. K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, said, "This prestigious international recognition reflects the global relevance and societal impact of research undertaken at IIT Roorkee. Dr. Patidar's work makes a significant contribution to addressing challenges related to climate variability, drought resilience, and water security."
This achievement also highlights the strong research collaboration between IIT Roorkee and the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, in advancing knowledge and innovation in water resources, climate science, and environmental sustainability.
