being technical is a thinking ability, not just a coding ability. I never took CS or learned proper algorithms and coding at uni but I could solve Google's CodeJam problems because I understood how mathematical-logical inference worked. that's just it. your way of thinking unlocks your agency and drive to learn seemingly harder concepts yourself. solving those 2 problems on my first try motivated me to learn to code, and I am so grateful I did--for it made me so damn efficient and resilient in research.

How Wiz Became the Most Valuable Security Startup with Amazon Neptune In an era where cloud infrastructure spans millions of interconnected resources and security threats exploit the subtle relationships between them, traditional security approaches fall short. Join Roy Reznik, Co-Founder & VP R&D at Wiz, and Ian Robinson, AWS Specialist Solutions Architect for Data and Analytics, as they reveal how two industry leaders collaborated to build the world's largest cybersecurity graph—a breakthrough that's transforming how organizations understand and defend their cloud environments. Wiz, the cybersecurity phenomenon recently acquired by Google for $32 billion, has redefined cloud security by providing comprehensive visibility across multi-cloud environments. When Wiz set out to map the intricate web of relationships between cloud resources, identities, vulnerabilities, and threats across their customers' infrastructures, they needed a database that could handle unprecedented scale and complexity. The answer was Amazon Neptune, AWS's fully managed graph database service designed specifically for highly connected data. This keynote takes you behind the scenes of an extraordinary technical collaboration. Ami Luttwak, who previously led Microsoft's Cloud Security Group and shaped products like Azure Security Center and Azure Sentinel, brings his 15 years of cybersecurity expertise to explain why relationships matter in security. Every cloud resource—from compute instances to storage buckets, from IAM roles to network configurations—exists in a complex web of connections. Understanding these relationships is the difference between catching a breach and missing it entirely. Ian Robinson, coauthor of the seminal "Graph Databases" and a recognized expert in extracting value from connected data, demonstrates how Amazon Neptune's support for property graphs and Gremlin queries enabled Wiz to traverse billions of relationships in milliseconds. Neptune's high performance, scalability, and durability proved essential for processing the massive, constantly evolving security graph that spans customers' entire cloud footprints. Together, they'll showcase how this partnership created a graph containing billions of nodes and edges, representing cloud resources, their configurations, potential attack paths, and security risks across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. You'll learn how graph traversal queries identify critical vulnerabilities that traditional security tools miss—like discovering how an exposed S3 bucket connects through a chain of IAM roles to your production database, or how a misconfigured Kubernetes cluster creates an unexpected path to sensitive data. The presentation reveals practical insights from building and operating this massive graph at scale: the architecture decisions, the query patterns that detect threats in real-time, and the lessons learned from pushing graph database technology to its limits. Whether you're a security professional seeking to understand modern threat detection, a data architect designing systems for connected data, or a technologist interested in graph databases at scale, this keynote offers unprecedented insights into the intersection of cybersecurity and graph technology. Discover how the world's biggest cybersecurity graph is helping organizations see their security posture not as isolated components, but as the interconnected system it truly is.
