I got the Anytone AT-D578UV mounted in the van, and working like a proper /analogue/ radio \o/ But being a DMR/Digital radio, there's usually the bother about signing up with a DMR Network, 'codeplug' configuration files ..but I made a codeplug with only Analogue Repeaters :D

I've thought in the past about writing a bunch of perl scripts that could tear apart a codeplug file, extract the important details from it, write it to a db, then export it into an importable format for a different CPS

Yeah, he is going to jail. Someone leaked a codeplug for "scanning" but it would also TX and here's the result.

Only in the low security algorithms which could already be cracked over the air, it's more likely the system ran with no encryption and a codeplug for listening/scanning was shared online that they used to transmit. That's actually common on a specific forum.

Yeah it reads like they stumbled into this because an experienced engineer gave them a codeplug to program their MTP850 and they should've been using it only to listen. Based on that alone you probably already know which forum they got the codeplug from ;)

Even with an SDR, you have to monitor for a long time to capture all the talk groups and demodulate the tetra. The chances of them hitting the one talkgroup that would halt the train by accident is a long shot. More likely they got a codeplug and keyed group like "EMERGENCY-OPS"

The younger suspect claims he got it from a forum, which would make sense that someone maybe gave them a system key or similar for eavesdropping but they were inexperienced and key'd / broadcast the radio. They also must have the codeplug and ability to flash the radio.

It looks like standard equipment, Motorola MTP850, they cost less than $100 or so off eBay. He had around 11 handsets I read, mostly HT's and cheap equipment like Baofengs. The real scandal here is that they had the codeplug for the radio, someone leaked it to them.

The article reads like the pair had a codeplug dumped from a radio that had all the necessary parameters, possibly a lost/stolen radio that was dumped and shared on a forum. They programmed it, and keyed up, doesn't seem like they send any specialist signals - just normal alert.

Wow! That is a very wild news article, two kids playing around with a TETRA system - downloaded codeplug for the radio off a forum to plug into the Train network, then broadcast an emergency signal that caused the trains to STOP/HALT. Why was the rail network unencrypted?

Got the Anytone D890UV today, so I did the codeplug for it & added a little customization. First time Anytone HT owner, I like it.

I asked ChatGPT to organize my codeplug. It did a great job. I said, “That’s amazing.” I then asked, “Can you get the ARRL to modernize and attract younger hams? It replied, “I’m AI, not a miracle worker.” To be fair…neither can the board of directors. #HamRadio

Once I changed menu item to "On", I had full-duplex operation once again. I will update codeplug later today for v1.04, but already added this info to README PDF at: dropbox.com/scl/fo/9sx6mx7g1…

Yes, I have been using my AT-D890UV to work FM satellites full-duplex for a few weeks. Using memory channels in both VFOs; built-in satellite tracking/tuning function only works half-duplex. I have a codeplug for full-duplex FM satellite operating at: dropbox.com/scl/fo/9sx6mx7g1…

Not sure if I will make any videos (@CaptDonMcJr1 covered that very well), but will probably write up a document explaining how I set up my AT-D890UV, & make a generic codeplug for full-duplex FM satellites. And play around with this radio more...

I consider that to be "security" (big ole air quotes). The people involved in PSL are the type that would sell their mother down the river if it benefitted them. Even if they were using encryption on DMR most of these radios will export their encryption keys as part of the codeplug if you read a radio with the software. Security is only as good as the weakest link.. and they're all weak links.. any person with one of the radios that gets the chance could compromise their whole operation. Guard your keys.. rotate your keys.. don't give programmed radio to someone you don't trust implicitly
