2/2 When you upload a bank statement (or any tax doc), here’s exactly what happens now: Your browser first calls /api/pubkey and gets our P-256 public key. In the browser, we create a fresh ephemeral keypair a random AES-256 session key. The file is encrypted before it ever leaves your device (AES-256-GCM). The session key is wrapped using ECDH with our public key. We send only ciphertext a tiny metadata envelope to the server. Server side: We decrypt only in RAM (plaintext never touches disk). Process the file (labeler → TIS → reconcile → Excel). Encrypt the output at rest with AES-256-GCM before writing to /tmp. When you download, we decrypt in memory and stream over HTTPS. Think of it like a lockbox at the bank: You put your docs in a locked box before you leave home. The guard (TLS) escorts you safely. The clerk only opens the box privately in a sealed room (RAM), processes it, then puts the result in a new locked box. You unlock it at home. No more clear-folder risk. Plaintext never sits on disk.
