Here is why I’m saying this:
This career, marketing, is one of the easiest to get confused and not see a clear path easily as roles are much and interwoven into one central field; many social media managers don’t even know they’re in marketing yet, as confusing as the career is (there are tweets rolling around on this everyday)
The crazier part is how one area of the career will only be more successful by knowing about other areas properly; a performance marketer can’t be the best without knowing what good creatives/content looks like, a product-marketing manager can’t be the best without understanding a lot technically (even to codes, terms, and their usage).
Some of the things I tried to do this year with utmost sincerity with myself (to avoid being lost in a Loop) is to ask questions of specialization again because this career will really mix many things into one’s cup:
🟠 What is my best space in marketing? = Social media and event marketing centrally
⚫️ Will this take me to the top? = Yes, it can. It’s one of the reasons why I’m looking at attending
@EFDevcon @fintechdevcon and or
@money2020 this year on sponsored and paid basis, I’m building towards them all.
🟠 How do I continue in what I’m currently doing to reach that top? = Doing my current job well and building an attractive personal brand, that’s why I’m adding storytelling for African fintechs to my doings.
My answers, your answers, will/should determine next steps to take.
It won’t be easy but it’s possible, for who can calm down to get the clarity in this career; if you can’t be patient and hyper-focused, switch career while you can.

Again, don’t do marketing as a career if you want to be a specialist really quick
