Vardhan Kapoor, Firstwork 09/03/2025 "Payday lending is shocking. You might not see it, but it traps tens of millions of Americans in a vicious cycle. With the technology we have in 2025, no one should be forced into these predatory situations. Why does this still exist? Time-to-hire varies from two to three months for blue collar roles, and then it’s often another month until payday. So if you get laid off and you’re one of America’s most financially vulnerable workers, you might not have savings to make it. The solution is filling these jobs in minutes, not months. Most of this time is spent on paperwork because you've got one person manually checking each application document. Someone goes on vacation—the whole process stops. Or maybe an applicant checks the wrong box on a form; it could be two weeks before HR spots it, and another two weeks to sort it out. It's insanely ancient, but this is how 99% of the market still works. Even worse, most hiring technology orients around white-collar work because that’s what Silicon Valley knows. Classic HR application tracking systems are obsessed with multiple rounds of interviews, but you want frontline people to start ASAP. The tech stack just isn't built for blue-collar workers, so companies muddle through doing things on Excel sheets the way they always have for high-volume hiring. We use AI to fix all this and cut through wait times. AI can catch errors in advance and speed timelines up. So when an application gets in front of a hiring manager, they can make a decision immediately. We have clients where time-to-hire has gone from weeks to under 10 minutes. That kind of speed changes the lives of the workers who get hired and their families, too."

<<팔란티어, AI 긍정 프로젝트 시작(워킹 인텔리전스)>> 팔란티어의 계정에 이런 기사(?)가 하나 올라왔는데, 바로 워킹 인텔리전스(AI 긍정 프로젝트) 라는 글이었다. 아무래도 요즘 AI의 발전과 더불어 여러 우려도 많고, 인력이 대체되고 사람들이 설곳이 없어지는게 아니냐는 등의 의견들도 많아서 다소 AI 에 대해 부정적인 인식이 심어질 수 있는 시기였는데, 거기에 맞춰 팔란티어는 AI가 인력을 단순히 대체하는 것이 아니며 함께 시너지를 낼 수 있는 그런 도구라는 것을 보여주기 위함이 아닌가 싶다. 그러면서 각 분야에서 일하는 3명의 인터뷰를 실었음. 먼저, 메인헬스라는 곳에서 일하시는 에드 킴린 박사의 인터뷰. “저는 모두에게 AI는 ‘도구’라고 말합니다. 체인톱(전기톱)이라고 생각해 보세요.메인주 사람들은 대단히 자립적입니다. 우리는 믿기지 않을 만큼 열심히 일하고, 직접 해내는 사람이라는 자부심을 갖고 있죠. 이는 혹독한 겨울을 대비하고 가족을 따뜻하게 지키기 위해 산더미 같은 장작을 감당해 온 경험에서 나옵니다.​장작 패기의 요점은 이겁니다. 하루 종일 도끼를 휘둘러 봐야 지쳐 버리고 필요한 일의 10분의 1도 못 끝낼 수 있습니다. 하지만 체인톱의 시동을 걸면, 수작업으로는 도저히 따라갈 수 없는 정밀함과 힘으로 같은 양의 장작을 한 시간 만에 뚝딱 해치울 수 있죠. 메인 사람들은 ‘열심히’와 ‘영리하게’의 차이를 알기 때문에 체인톱을 정말 잘 다룹니다. 메인은 우리나라를 특별하게 만드는 것들의 축소판입니다. 기발함, 근면함, 그리고 독립적인 정신이 미국을 돋보이게 합니다. 다른 나라에서는 때로 우리가 자신만만하다고 말하지만, 바로 그 자기 확신이 전 세계 사람들이 와서 번영하는 곳을 미국으로 만든 원동력입니다.​ 저는 AI가 인간다움을 지키면서도 기발함과 혁신을 불어넣어 ‘아메리칸 스피릿’을 강화한다고 봅니다. 그 파트너십을 우리가 능숙하게 다룰 수 있다면—AI가 데이터와 문서 작업을 맡고, 인간이 공감과 복잡한 의학적 판단에 집중한다면—우리는 단지 보건의료 시스템을 구하는 데서 그치지 않습니다. 기술이 어떻게 인간의 잠재력을 가속할 수 있는지 세계에 보여 줄 모델을 만들게 될 겁니다.​예전엔 보험 거절에 맞서 이의신청서를 만들 때 한 시간을 들였습니다. 차트를 대조해 가며 손으로 상세한 답변을 쓰는 일이었죠. 도끼를 계속 휘두르는 일이나 다름없었습니다. 이제는 AI 덕분에 10분이면 더 좋고 더 꼼꼼한 결과를 얻습니다. 제가 놓칠 수 있었던 세부 사항을 AI가 찾아주고, 제가 수작업으로는 하기 어려운 수준으로 기준을 더 폭넓게 적용해 줍니다. 그래서 더 정밀하고 강력한 이의신청서가 나옵니다. 심지어 우리가 지더라도, 짧은 시간에 훨씬 더 철저히 우리의 일을 해냈다는 점에서 ‘이긴 셈’이죠.​ 저는 제 체인톱을 사랑합니다. 꼭 완벽히 다룰 겁니다. 왜냐하면 미국의 농촌에서는 쓸데없는 수작업을 없애고 우리를 막을 수 없게 만드는 도구를 기꺼이 받아들이니까요. 왜 다시 도끼로 돌아가야 하겠습니까? 행정 업무라는 잡목을 베어 내기에는 잘못된 도구로는 도저히 효율을 낼 수 없습니다. 우리를 믿고 기대는 사람들과의 신뢰는 ‘일을 끝까지 해내는 것’에서 생깁니다. 그렇다면 왜 올바른 도구를 써서 최선의 결과를 내지 않겠습니까?” 라이언 굿윈(Ryan Goodwin), 트리니티 인더스트리스 “아버지가 해군에 계셔서 저는 여기저기 돌아다니며 자랐습니다—학교만 다섯, 일곱, 여덟 군데… 정확히도 모르겠네요. 20년 동안 공급망 컨설팅을 하면서 어디를 가든 같은 장면을 봤습니다. 뛰어난 사람들이 멍청한 일에 갇혀 있는 모습이었죠.​예전에, AI가 나오기 전 얘기입니다. 제가 한 창고에 관리 시스템을 도입하러 갔을 때 한 여성을 만났어요—이름은 기억나지 않지만—그분은 창고의 집품(픽킹) 작업자였습니다. 그곳은 모든 걸 종이로 처리했고, 우리는 핸드헬드 단말기와 그린 스크린(단색 단말)을 들여오고 있었죠. 그분은 그 모든 걸 다 배웠습니다. 늘 일찍 오고, 항상 ‘더 알려주세요’라고 말하곤 했죠. 바닥에서 일하던 분이 배움에 대한 의지 하나로 감독이 됐습니다. 제가 미국 노동자를 사랑하는 이유는 적응하고 방법을 찾아내는 능력입니다. 올바른 도구만 주면 우리는 그걸 들고 달립니다. 미국 노동자들은 그 도구를 손에 쥐자마자 실험하고, 반복하며, 개선해 나갈 자신감이 있어요.​그래서 저는 AI가 우리 나라에 미칠 영향에 대해 낙관적입니다—미국인들은 이를 마음껏 펼칠 문화적 DNA를 지니고 있으니까요. 우리는 사람을 대체하려는 게 아니라, 자유롭게 하려는 겁니다. 미국인은 허가를 기다리지 않습니다. 그냥 시작하죠. 다른 나라들도 그럴듯한 기술을 만들 수는 있지만, 현장에 있는 사람들 손에 과감히 그대로 쥐여 주며 ‘가서 더 나아지게 만들어봐’라고 말할 배짱은 여기—미국—에만 있습니다.” 바르단 카푸르(Vardhan Kapoor), 퍼스트워크(Firstwork) “회사에 AI가 도입된다고 들으면, 내 일을 대체하려는 게 아닐까 걱정할 수 있습니다. 하지만 실제로는 거의 정반대예요. 우리는 ‘직원을 강화’하는 데 방점을 찍고 들어옵니다. 사람을 우연히 자동화해 버리는 AI 워크플로가 아니라, 사람 중심(human-first) AI 워크플로죠.​그게 무슨 뜻일까요? 우리는 회사를 증강하는 것보다 사람을 증강하는 데 더 집중합니다. 가장 흥미로운 혁신들 중 상당수가, 현장의 근로자들과 ‘어떻게 도울 수 있을까’ 대화하는 과정에서 나옵니다.​HR 운영을 예로 들어 보겠습니다. 대부분 이 일을 택한 이유는 사람과 함께 일하는 것을 좋아해서예요. 후보자를 인터뷰하고 싶어 하죠. 그런데 지원 한 건마다 20~40개의 지루한 서류가 따라붙으니, 일은 덜 즐거워지고 스트레스와 불안만 커집니다.​ 그러니 AI가 그 행정 업무, 사람들이 애초에 하려고 들어온 게 아닌 불쾌한 백오피스 일을 맡도록 합시다. AI가 그런 고통을 덜어 주면, 사람들은 자신이 원하던 일—훌륭한 인재를 채용하고, 그 인재가 생산성을 내며 가치를 창출하도록 돕는 일—에 집중할 수 있습니다.​ 로봇과 AI가 매우 잘하는 일이 있고, 인간이 매우 잘하는 일이 있습니다. 우리는 인간 중심 조직이 가장 잘하는 일을 하도록 돕습니다: 문화적 적합성을 확인하고, 사람을 온보딩하며, 팀이 자신의 일에 신나고 열정을 유지하도록 하는 것 말이죠. AI는 그들을 붙잡고 있던 지루한 일을 걷어내는 데 뛰어납니다—설령 누군가를 간호해 회복시킬 수는 없더라도요.” ----- 이렇듯 AI라는 것은 무언가를 대체하는 개념이 아닌 증강의 개념으로 보아야 하며, 사람을 자동화의 대상이 아닌 주인공으로 봐야한다는 것이 팔란티어의 관점이라고 생각한다. 도끼가 아닌 체인톱(올바른 도구)를 쥐여주는 것이 바로 AI의 역할. 그리고 반복적이고 행정적인 부분은 AI가 담당하여 시간을 획기적으로 단축해주고, 그렇게 절약된 시간을 인간은 더 깊이 판단하고 공감할 수 있는 몰입감을 높이며 좋은 시너지를 낼 수 있는 부분이고 실제로도 많은 영역에서 이러한 진전이 일어나고 있다. 그렇기 때문에 AI 라는 것은 무조건 인간을 대체하고 몰아내는 기술이 아니라 하나의 긴밀한 파트너십으로써 앞으로 의료, 제조, HR 등 정말 다양한 분야에서 활용이 가능할 거라 생각하고 있고, 그렇기 때문에 팔란티어의 미래도 밝을거라고 생각하며 투자하고 있다.
