📈OIL SHOCK CONCERNS HAS JUST TURBOCHARGED THE NUCLEAR RENAISSANCE. Hence, today’s cartoon.
A brief summary of some of the key headlines affecting the U trade (and sentiment) over the last couple of days:
1. EU Head Ursula von der Leyen calls Europes prior move away from nuclear as a “Strategic Mistake”. This follows Germany’s Chancellor Merz admitting Germany’s shutting off of perfectly good nuclear plants as the same thing. It also seems Taiwan, having done the same thing as Germany, is now ALREADY, only a year later, realising the same.

2. Isodope asks some very good questions about how “energy experts” got the energy transition so wrong. Vested interests from powerful lobby groups, perhaps? We certainly have that in Australia.

3. Will Indian Point get restarted, after being shut in 2021. No reason why it can’t be. Will join the LONG LIST of restarts; lots of low hanging fruit for the US to deliver more electrons to a grid that is hungry for them.
4. New CEO at BP a “fossil fuel hardliner”; notably showing the “green pivot” which saw disastrous investments in things like green hydrogen, is over. NOW SOMEONE PLEASE TELL AUSSIE ENERGY MINISTER CHRIS BOWEN!

5. The fact the Uranium doesn’t need to go through the Straits of Hormuz is obvious. Nuclear was an answer to the oil shocks of the 1970s (ie, why France went nuclear, to reduce reliance on oil imports). Well, its all happening again.

6. South Africa has signed up to be the 34thcountry to the Triple Nuclear Pledge. They have big plans; question over affordability? And which tech to choose?
7. Hold that thought - 4 more countries - China, Brazil, Italy and Belgium have now signed up bringing the total to 38!

8. Australia's Northern Territory has added uranium to its Critical Minerals List! A great initiative; and precedent for others (WA, QLD, Federal) to follow:

9. And wouldn't you know, even the WA Mining Minister has been mentioning uranium!

10. Bit of a slow day for ASX announcemnets though.
