Gloria Pompili was a 23-year-old Italian mother of three children.
For a long time she was violently forced into prostitution by Saad Mohamed Elesh Salem, a North African immigrant, and his wife Loide Del Prete, Gloria’s own aunt.
One evening she refused to go out on the streets. In response, the couple savagely beat her and her young children, who were present, with extreme brutality. They then forced her into a car and drove her to the place where she was supposed to prostitute herself.
While she was still inside the vehicle, Gloria suffered a severe medical emergency from her injuries and died.
The autopsy revealed that the violent beatings had caused multiple traumas, including a fracture to her eleventh vertebra and an acute injury to her spleen, leading to fatal internal bleeding.
Saad Mohamed Elesh Salem and Loide Del Prete were convicted of aggravated voluntary homicide with base and futile motives. They were initially sentenced to 24 years in prison, later reduced to 20 years.
