A 16-year-old suspected gang member is in jail, and police say he's tied to three different shootings—including a murder—on the east side of Indianapolis.
Richard Williams was 15 at the time of the crime spree in April 2025, but IMPD says he was an active member of a gang known as "Project Babies Thuggin," and went by the name "HellHead."
Williams is charged with murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, armed robbery, aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm and dangerous possession of a firearm by a child.
He is accused of using a girl to help lure 24-year-old Wilson Astreide to a home on Temple Avenue on April 9, 2025, in an effort to steal his car.
Astreide was shot in the neck and survived, but died from gunshot wound complications in August of 2025.
Before his death, Astreide helped police pick Williams out of a photo lineup and give the Instagram for the woman he was picking up.
But Williams was actually arrested by police about a week after the shooting, when police say he shot a man in the leg at the gas station at 25th and Sherman.
Security video captured it all and Williams was arrested wearing the same head wrap that police say the suspect in the Temple Avenue shooting was wearing.
Shell casings recovered at both scenes match the gun police found on Williams during his arrest.
Instagram messages reportedly show Williams admit to a third shooting—on April 8, 2025—where he shot at a person at a gas station near East New York Street and North Sherman Avenue.
Officers recovered shell casings at the scene, which were later matched to casings found at the Temple Avenue shooting.
Williams was booked into jail on the charges April 24, 2026. He made his initial court appearance April 28.
As with all murder cases in Indiana, he is being held in jail without bond and is scheduled to be back in court in June.
