The Netherlands have played in three World Cup finals. They've lost every single one. A German economist named Joachim Klement, who has correctly predicted the last three World Cup winners using a mathematical model, just picked them to finally win in 2026. Klement holds a master's in mathematics from ETH Zurich, one of Europe's top engineering schools, and works in finance in London. In 2014, he built the model as a deliberate exercise to prove that economics couldn't forecast football any better than chance. Germany won anyway. France followed in 2018, then Argentina in Qatar in 2022. Three-for-three. The model is based on a 2002 University of Nottingham study on what actually drives international football success. The core inputs are GDP per capita (richer countries build better football academies), total population (more people, deeper talent pool), and average temperature. The model's sweet spot is 14 degrees Celsius for year-round outdoor play, which is partly why Spain, France, and Argentina have dominated for decades. Add current FIFA rankings and a bonus for the host nation, and you have a system that reads football success as an economic output. With 32 teams in each of those tournaments, the odds of picking correctly at random were 3% per event. Three in a row by pure chance: 0.003%. Klement says about half of any match comes down to luck. For 2026, his model picks the Netherlands to beat France, Spain, and Portugal on the way to a first title. The Dutch have never won it. Three finals, each one lost. In 1974 in Munich, Johan Cruyff's Netherlands took an early lead against West Germany and still lost 2-1. They went back in 1978 without Cruyff and lost to Argentina 3-1 in extra time. In 2010, Andres Iniesta's goal in the 116th minute gave Spain a 1-0 win in Johannesburg. The Dutch hold the record for most World Cup final appearances without ever winning. Their first game is tomorrow, against Japan in Dallas. If the model holds, 52 years of near-misses end in New York on July 19.
The Mathematician who has correctly predicted winners of the last 3 World Cups has just made his predictions for this World Cup 😭😭😭

An Israeli Arab Muslim who gets to have security, food, a career, and a life because of Israel, literally spits on a female soldier. Isn't it high time Israel kicks these internal enemies out?

All life as we know it arose from a cell playing host to a bacteria some 2-billion years ago. That historic host cell evolved into a eukaryotic cell- that is a cell with a nucleus; it formed an intimate relationship with a bacteria which went on to become mitochondria which ultimately transformed the host cell into a eukaryote as it provided the needed power. The origin of life on Earth was a singular event- all life as we know it became of this event. These little power houses, mitochondria, are marvelous little molecular machines- the ATP synthesis, is a rotating protein motor that spins at 400 revolutions per second. There are tens of thousands of them in each mitochondrion- the ‘powerhouses’ of life. Mitochondria are so small that 1-billion of them would fit into a grain of sand. Incredible that something that small can turbo-charge life. I kind of think of the two as Adam and Eve. Life literally would not have evolved beyond bacteria if not for mitochondria. Another interesting aspect is that the joining of the two is responsible for the two sexes. In some ways they still remain an enigma, so as the saying goes, “nobody understands a mitochondriac.”
We don’t have to use any standard for our own. The host culture doesn’t have to justify itself to you or anyone else,

Four years ago, Qatar hosted the world. They Qualified automatically as host nations They played Three matches, three heavy defeats, just one single goal scored. They walked away with the worst record of any host nation in tournament history. Fast forward to 2026. No host nation privileges. They had to fight through a grueling, turbulent qualification process to earn their ticket to North America. No one gave them a chance against a star-studded Switzerland squad boasting 70% possession and a relentless onslaught of 27 shots, Qatar was expected to crumble. When Breel Embolo slotted home a 17th-minute penalty, it felt like the same old script. In the 94th minute, Boualem smashed home a historic equalizer. A 1-1 draw to give them their first-ever World Cup point. This is why we watch football. Thank you Julen Lopetegui 🇶🇦✨

One of the co-host nations is Mexico. 93% of Mexicans speak Spanish. They allowed French, Canada's second language, but not Mexico's first, and an even more widely spoken and unifying Football language than English. Gods be damned, this sucks so much.
