I encourage you to explore the data at the website for @humanprogress (if you want cause for a "glimmer of hope"). In my experience, progressives seem to hate seeing credible evidence of progress.

The evidence contradicts these claims (suggesting at least some grounds for skepticism)—and predictions about the date for such disasters keep getting postponed or modulated (because the doomsayers have continued to underestimate our ingenuity in the face of crises).
