The Light-Up Lagos Project is a commendable initiative that continues to improve visibility, security, and confidence across our communities. We acknowledge Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for ongoing investments in public infrastructure.
However, as Lagos continues to grow, residents are also calling for the next phase of development to address practical everyday challenges.
Some of the issues frequently raised by residents include:
โข The need for properly designed Keke and transport parks following the ban on commercial motorcycles on major roads. Many tricycles currently operate and park along roadsides, contributing to congestion and disorder.
โข The need to upgrade public markets, including facilities such as the Sanwo-Olu International Market, where traders and visitors have expressed concerns about inadequate lighting, sanitation, and the continued use of pit toilets in a modern commercial environment.
โข Improved public conveniences, waste management systems, drainage maintenance, and cleaner market environments across Lagos.
โข Greater investment in youth development, skills acquisition, enterprise support, and local economic opportunities.
_Development is not only about roads and streetlights. It is also about functional markets, clean sanitation, organized transportation systems, productive citizens, and modern public infrastructure._
As Lagos moves forward, citizens hope to see a stronger focus on projects that directly improve daily living and economic productivity.
As the Yoruba say:
โIlu to ba ni imole, ko gbodo ni okunkun ninu eto idagbasoke re.โ
(A city that has light should not have darkness in its development planning.)
