KMTC Principals Undergo e-GP Training to Strengthen Procurement Oversight
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has intensified capacity building on the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system, with Campus Principals undergoing training to strengthen accountability, transparency, and efficiency in procurement across the College.
The five-day training, taking place at KMTC Kisumu Campus from June 15 to 19, 2026, is part of the Government's nationwide rollout of the e-GP system to Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), State Corporations, and public institutions. The digital platform seeks to automate procurement processes, improve oversight, reduce procurement-related risks, and promote prudent management of public resources.
The programme builds on a series of e-GP capacity-building initiatives launched by the College in May 2026 to prepare staff for the transition to the digital procurement system.
Officially opening the training, CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch underscored the critical role Campus Principals play in safeguarding public resources through effective oversight of procurement processes.
"As heads of campuses, Principals are responsible for overseeing all procurement processes within their institutions. Just as directors oversee operations within their directorates, Principals must ensure that procurement activities comply fully with the law and established regulations," he said.
Dr. Oluoch urged participants to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) and remain guided by procurement laws and regulations when acquiring goods and services.
He noted that the successful implementation of the e-GP system will improve operational efficiency, strengthen accountability, reduce paperwork, and enhance service delivery across the College.
The CEO also commended KMTC Kisumu Campus for implementing the O3 Plus Project, a global initiative led by UNESCO that promotes safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.
The programme seeks to protect students from sexual and gender-based violence, strengthen access to sexual and reproductive health information and services, and empower young people to make informed decisions.
Dr. Oluoch encouraged other campuses to adopt similar initiatives to enhance student welfare and promote safe learning environments.
Dr. Oluoch further briefed the Principals on the ongoing negotiations for the 2022 - 2026 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), noting that the process was nearing conclusion and encouraging them to keep staff informed of the progress.
The training is expected to strengthen Principals' capacity to oversee procurement effectively while supporting KMTC's digital transformation agenda and the Government's public procurement reforms.
