Used 2 of @cossettej activities to help intro our waves and astronomy unit. Ss use whiteboards to record observations and Qs. Chalk markers to determine groups of stars. Use thermal putty and microwave to help measure speed of light and distance of stars #modphys #iteachphysics

Well, you could
Either read 'Why don't student's like school' @DTWillingham, then all of @PepsMccrea books and rED In Action books
OR
go to a Research Ed conference. Even with flights and hotel (and modest $70 cost) it's a lot cheaper than most courses (including #modphys).

The last 2 years I’ve adopted more #thinkingclassroom practices and #modphys I’ve scaled back on ppt lecture and more student demos, stories, minilabs, slide decks that are mostly gifs and problems. Downside has been PLC collab is more difficult w diff mindsets #iteachphysics

Just realized the slide deck for my friction "lecture" is 31 slides, containing 18 animated gifs, 3 images and 2 videos that fill their respective slides that have little or no text. Not a lot of note-taking...

Doing new things is scary! Finally doing unit-ending lab practicums (hands-on lab tests). This first one is testing their identification of scientific relationships and graphing DV vs IV. I don't know who's more nervous, me or Ss, but we all persevered!! #LearnByDoing #ModPhys

Just finished previewing tomorrow's labs ( @VernierST ): used the Centripetal Force Appar. and got F=(m/r)v^2 where m/r slope value was <1% error. Then used Sensor Cart w/ band spring to develop Ek=0.5mv^2 (11% error) #iteachphysics #modphys
