OCSO’s Mounted Unit would like to wish our four-legged partner, Pocket Change (PC), a very happy retirement after eight years of dedicated service.   PC’s journey with OCSO began in 2008, when our Agricultural Unit responded to a call about an abandoned horse near SR-417 in Orlando. After being rescued, he was later auctioned and purchased by OCSO for just $1.00 — earning him the name “Pocket Change.”   Over the years, PC became a beloved member of the Mounted Unit, working countless memorable events and building connections with citizens across Orange County. His loyal service made a lasting impact on both deputies and the community he served.   PC will now enjoy retirement at the beautiful Mill Creek Farms in Alachua County, where several of our former mounts also call home.   Thank you for your years of service, PC. #sapsWC Just over 200 high school learners converged in Ocean View for the Ocean View Career Expo to ignite their aspirations. The #SAPS in the Western Cape was one of the exhibitors alongside other law enforcement agencies showcasing its career offerings. Despite a morning of biting cold and persistent rain, the hall at Ocean View High School was alive with learners from both the host school and neighbouring Masiphumelele High School in attendance. The weather may have kept many indoors but for the young leaders, the spirit proved stronger than the stormy weather. The audience was treated to an array of career opportunities and safety tips. The career expo is part of a series of exhibitions the SAPS in the Province is participating in as part of reaching out to communities afflicted by crime. On Saturday, the SAPS mounted another career exhibition at Buren High School in Brooklyn, Milnerton. The event was initiated by the Grace Bible Church and saw 500 learners attending the Career Exhibition. Units such the #AntiGangUnit, Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), #MountedUnit. This week, Mounted Alessandro officially retired from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit. 🐴💙 Alessandro joined OCSO’s mounted unit in 2018, where he assisted with light neighborhood patrols and helped train deputies learning to ride as part of the mounted unit. A true lover with a big personality, Alessandro adores attention, enjoys impressing the mares, and never misses a chance to buddy up with them. He also loves human interaction, especially when treats are involved. 🍎 Now at 18 years old, Alessandro is heading into a well-earned retirement at the 10-42 Police Retirement Home in Trenton, Florida, where he’ll be living with three other horses and enjoying a life of relaxation.
