All of your banter with other artists over AI inspired me to make a music video with Grok and Suno. It's fun, but I feel like it still needs a bit more control. I was a game developer, but my favorite work was making the tools and engines. This feels like when Zbrush and Mudbox first came out and people were either racing to figure out how to make use of it or trying to find ways to mock the "useless overly detailed statues" until all of the criticism faded and it became standard.

I don't think a lot of people understand how CGI actually works. You don't just press a button or input a prompt and out pops a 900 million-polygon character. You actually have to sit down and sculpt that shit from beginning to end in Autodesk Mudbox, ZBrush, or Blender.

Why don't they integrate into Maya? I mean, it will not be a Zbrush k!ller or anything but at least it will allow us to not leave the program for basic sculpting. They have completely abandoned Mudbox anyway. Basic texturing and scultping tools for Maya, plus better real time viewport that is compatible with Arnold nodes is need of the hour.

There is a use case for every tool, AI being one of them. The first time I really heard about ML in production was DD's Masquerade. No VFX artist I know thinks AI is useless, it's just that image and video generation tools aren't iterative enough for production. Right now, iterating with human direction, and having the AI understand the direction, is impossible. If we really want to start taking the technology seriously, we should be looking at pipeline integration and modular toolsets, rather than wholesale replacement. Think of it like like transferring skillsets from claysculpting to Zbrush or Mudbox. Or transferring GoMotion/2d animation skills to Maya.
