We stopped putting out hulled sunflower seeds; only fats out now. Went quiet during May but that's common with nesting & feeding nestlings. Has got busier now birds are fledgling. Adults feeding juveniles as they forage in our #NoMowSummer grass full of mini beasts #Springwatch

It's a sward fight this weekend for the weekly @wildflower_hour challenge! What's your #NoMowMay or #NoMowSummer yielding on your lawn? Or has your local council spared some public grass the cut? Share all your #LawnFlowers this coming Sunday evening for #WildflowerHour!
Have you been taking part in #NoMowMay or opting for a #NoMowSummer? The challenge this week is to show us your #LawnFlowers! No lawn? See what’s blooming in another local grassed area instead. Share your pics for #WildflowerHour this Sunday 8-9pm. Happy flower hunting! 🌸🌾🌼

One for @BasingstokeGov. Note also "After 31 May, councils mow long grass, killing the invertebrate eggs & larvæ that colonised that grass in May. Adult female invertebrates will thus have wasted all their precious eggs. Nature needs #NoMowSummer."
Uncut grass keeps the ground at around 19.5Β°C Grass cut to 10 cm raises the ground temperature to about 24.5Β°C Bare ground in the middle of summer rises to over 40Β°C It's important to raise awareness #NoMowMay

Thanks for the tip on ground cooling, but #NoMowMay has backfired. After 31 May, councils mow long grass, killing the invertebrate eggs & larvæ that colonised that grass in May. Adult female invertebrates will thus have wasted all their precious eggs. Nature needs #NoMowSummer.

Recently I revisited a 1/2 acre site to carry out the annual hay cut, where two years ago, I created a wildflower meadow & wildlife pond from a piece of mown grass. It’s now a thriving habitat that’s full of invertebrates, mammals, amphibians and many bird species. #NoMowSummer
