Something that no one really prepares you for after a startup exit is how many parts of the world totally changed while you were heads down for, in my case, ~7 years. It's exciting and scary to dig back in!
A few things that I've learned/rediscovered:
- iOS apps seem like a joy to build now? Someone correct me? Last time I built one professionally we were all on iOS 10 and I was manually computing UI element constraints 🤮
- The US has shut down at least 6 nuclear power plants since 2017 🙁 but cost to operate nuclear still got cheaper vs. fossil steam hydro-electric got more expensive
- Heroku hasn't changed at all, lol, but people seem to have left for other choices -
@flydotio looks promising. (I miss
@ParsePlatform)
- some viable competitors to
@mixpanel these days.
@posthog looks really nice.
- day 0 startup infra is fantastic - Stripe Atlas,
@mercury,
@AngelList, etc. Way easier setting things up this time around.
- there's too much good theater for me to catch up on in NYC!
Overall might not seem like earth shattering insights but when you've been buried in K-12 EdTech for 7 years... 🤪
