India’s ethanol roadmap is being built on strong fundamentals

Supporting India's Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme.
In continuation of the excise duty exemption already available on ethanol-blended petrol up to E20, the same exemption has now been extended to higher ethanol-blended petrol variants E22,E25,E27 and E30.
The measure follows the issuance of BIS standards for higher ethanol blends and is intended to avoid double levy of excise duty on ethanol-blended petrol.
India's EBP Programme has achieved 20% ethanol blending in ESY 2025-26, up from 1.53% in ESY 2014-15. Since its inception, the programme has contributed to foreign exchange savings of over ₹1.91 lakh crore, crude oil substitution of about 310 lakh metric tonnes, net CO₂ reduction of approximately 931 lakh metric tonnes, and payments of ₹1.62 lakh crore to farmers.
This notification is a preliminary prerequisite for higher ethanol blends and does not imply their rollout, which will be undertaken only after extensive testing and consultation.

BJP in Tamil Nadu has little to lose by attacking Annamalai. For at least the next 15 years, the party is unlikely to be a major electoral force in the state. In fact, Annamalai will occupy much of the limited political space that BJP currently holds in Tamil Nadu.
Annamalai, however, lacks the same latitude to take on BJP directly, limiting his criticism largely to policy and governance issues. The party's strategy appears to be to provoke him or his supporters into a response, hoping to slow the exodus of even its traditional cadre toward him. Many of these supporters are comfortable balancing their loyalties - backing Modi at the national level while seeing Annamalai as their preferred leader in Tamil Nadu. Any direct response from him or his supporters risks bringing to the surface an uncomfortable question for cadres moving away from BJP in Tamil Nadu - whether their primary loyalty lies with Modi and BJP at the Centre or with him.
Annamalai is smart to take the bait and too decent to respond . On the contrary, the same cant be said about his supporters.

non-compatible vehicles get E20 and fuel isn't priced for lower energy content.
Compatibility-based fueling and fair pricing are needed.
