Fantastic breakdown! Love seeing people spot these fine details. The BBS Japan thermal-isolation loophole under Loïc Serra is genius, but there is an even bigger mechanical factor at play for Lewis's driving style. The shift to a pushrod system front and rear has completely transformed his confidence. The pull-rod setup last year led to horrible mid-corner instability—he couldn't correct oversteer progressively. Now, he finally has the compliant front end he needs to extract his freakish baseline pace. 🛠️🏎️ I mapped out the entire engineering philosophy behind Vasseur's 2026 technical rebuild and Serra's hiring in Red Dawn. Well first of all it will still require a BUNCH of tech because of FMVSS. A thousand airbags and electronic nannies. Second, it takes time to develop and emissions certify engines and transmissions. Nobody sells a "simple" engine and transmission anymore. They can't just crack open the books on the old pushrod 3.5-3.8 V6s and 4 speed transmissions and start making them again. They're also not motivated by competitors, and the primary market (upper middle class) doesn't care about these vehicles being so expensive and tech heavy. There's a defacto oligarchy and most these large OEMs aren't as motivated to shake up the market. If these regs hold, it'll take 2-3y to see major drivetrain revisions and 5y to see a more desperate competitor take a big risk. If FMVSS were significantly rolled back you might see more aggressive action sooner. Especially for brands with global products they could just start making here (see: Hilux). But FMVSS is still a huge tech and design hurdle.

Just give me back my simple pushrod V8 with no stupid cylinder deactivation or fuel cut, A reliable manual or a simple 4-5 speed automatic. Nothing else.

🚨 Harley-Davidson is bringing back the Super Glide! In line with the clear course correction under the new CEO, the Motor Company is steadily steering back toward its heritage after previous leadership’s heavy push into electric bikes contributed to the discontinuation of the iconic Sportster line. Just in the past few months, we’ve seen the triumphant return of the air-cooled, pushrod-driven Evo-powered Sportster, and now a brand-new Super Glide. While it’s still built on the proven mono-shock Softail frame, this revival feels like another strong step in the right direction. limited-edition model celebrating the 55th anniversary of the original 1971 FX Super Glide. Only 2,500 serialized units will be produced for the US and Canada. It will likely carry a premium price tag (rumors point to around $63,000), but damn—it looks sharp. Return of the air-cooled Evo Sportster: Harley is reviving the classic air-cooled Evolution-powered 883 Sportster for 2027 as an affordable entry-level bike (target ~$10,000). This follows the discontinuation of the previous Evo Sportster models after 2022. What do you think? Is this the kind of move Harley needs to win back traditional riders?

I would love to have a JMEV SC01, although getting one homologated for Australia will be tricky. Raw AWD EV sportscar for around the same price as a Subaru BRZ in China. Pushrod suspension, around 1350kg. Perfect on track or in the mountains.

Ram is aiming to make its entry-level 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee 5.7 accessible to a much broader audience. Kuniskis confirmed that Ram is targeting a starting price around the $60,000 mark. Kuniskis made it clear that while halo models like the Rumble Bee SRT generate headlines, the volume seller will be the HEMI-powered Rumble Bee 5.7. Powering the entry-level Rumble Bee is Ram’s legendary 345-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) HEMI V8. The naturally aspirated engine delivers 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque while maintaining the traditional pushrod architecture that enthusiasts have loved for years. Unlike many modern powertrains that rely heavily on turbochargers or electrification, the HEMI continues to deliver straightforward V8 performance with a distinctive sound and character. The engine features aluminum cylinder heads, variable valve timing, an active intake manifold, and the Multi-Displacement System (MDS) that can deactivate four cylinders during light-load cruising to improve efficiency. Importantly, Ram eliminated both eTorque and stop/start technology from the Rumble Bee application. For many enthusiasts, that alone will be viewed as a major selling point. Power is sent through Ram’s proven TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted aluminum paddle shifters and a G/T-style floor shifter. Performance numbers are impressive for a full-size truck: 0 to 60 mph: 6.1 seconds Quarter-mile: 14.6 seconds Trap Speed: 93 mph

A V8 modeled by Fable 5 in under 10 minutes. Impressed right up until the engine builders arrived in the replies: overhead cams plus a pushrod, a camshaft that would shred itself, no fuel path. A sculpture of an engine. Gorgeous. It would never run.

claude fable 5 has solved CAD I asked it to make a model of a V8 engine It came back to me with a fully working model in under 10 minutes

Even the 75bhp 1.3 Cav was quicker than the 88 bhp Chevy 1.8 litre which was an ancient pushrod unit to keep the cost down (also the Chevy was a bit heavier). Although the Chevy did get a V6 in that generation (only Mk3 Cavaliers, a completely different car, had a V6).

I need Toyota to remake my 80s pickup with a 4.8 litre pushrod v8 because why the heck does my 2.4 litre FI SOHC only get 19 mpgs and effectively redline at 4,500 rpms?

That's not a pushrod engine. And the rodknock would not come and go.

No incentive to keep developing the old pushrod V8’s when the rest of the series they care about let them use their New Coyote stuff.

Been awhile but I still got it ⚙️🔩🔧💪🏽 AFM lifter collapse/bent pushrod on my Escalade. Severe cylinder one misfire. Luckily the cam wasn’t destroyed. Btw: This is a $10,000 repair at the dealership 🤡 There is currently a Class Action lawsuit against GM for this bullshit.

Yes, somebody has launched a new electric hypercar in 2026. Brave… This is the Elektron Quasar, built in Stuttgart. Spec includes mechanical LSDs, hydraulic steering, a simulated paddle-shift transmission and active pushrod suspension. The big numbers are 2,413hp and 1,427kg.
