The
#76ers lost another member of their family. Former
#Sixers GM Pat Williams has passed away at the age of 84.
Pat brought the last championship to the Sixers Franchise in 1983. He was the team’s GM for 12 years following General Manager jobs with the
#Bulls and
#Hawks.
Williams brought Julius Erving, and Moses Malone to the Sixers along with Maurice Cheeks and Andrew Toney. After winning a championship he drafted Charles Barkley.
Pat was a promotional genius and coined the phrase “We Owe You One” after the 76ers lost in the
#NBA Finals to the
#Trailblazers in 1977.
His promotions with the Sixers included a Singing Pig , a Wrestling Bear and he actually got me to Mud Wrestle as a promotion after a game.
He left Philadelphia after 1986 and was the Co-Founder of the Orlando
#Magic.
Williams was the father of 19 children, 14 of which were adopted. He has also written over 100 books.
He was a brilliant and fun guy. Rest in Peace my friend.
#RIPPat
