If someone told me five years ago when I was starting my company
@ontologyofvalue where it would lead me, I wouldn’t believe it.
1️⃣ At first, my goal was simple. I just wanted a decent job.
It was challenging.
I was starting from a disadvantaged position as a Polish expat in the Netherlands and without command of Dutch language — for worse, with a PhD in neuroscience that made me overqualified for most jobs.
2️⃣ Once I started analyzing the job market, it turned out that other PhD graduates in
#STEMEducation have similar problems with navigating outside of the academic system.
Back then in 2018/2019, right before the pandemic, there were no effective independent career services one could just make use from. And so I decided to create one.
3️⃣ During the pandemic, it became obvious that the job market got disrupted for good.
Jobs became remote and the job market became global.
Knowledge workers started questioning their career plans, and pivoting in their careers are than any time before.
And it turned out that I need to build self-navigation solutions for all knowledge workers — not just PhDs.
This is when I sat down for two years and built the Ontology of Value® Test, a new quantitative solution to assess one’s competitive advantage in the (knowledge) job market.
4️⃣ After the pandemic, ChatGPT came out and disrupted the job market once again.
This is when I realized AI is here to stay and it is going to massively impact the way we work and communicate.
This is when I took the ultimate jump out of my green Dutch comfort zone and started travels to San Francisco and whereabouts to learn from the best and get a better view of the future of work.
5️⃣ At some point, I got a gut feeling that we are about to go through a massive socio-economic transition in the years to come.
And that eventually, some form of Universal Basic Income is inevitable.
Today, my mission is to safely got the humanity through this transition — safely and smoothly.
From just trying to get a job to UBI in five years? It’s been a wild ride, no doubt about it.
But the best part of it is: I meet INCREDIBLE people on the way.
This summer, I had a great pleasure to have a conversation with one of the top futurists in the world,
@rossdawson, on his podcast Amplifying Cognition.
I could’t believe I got this invitation!
We were talking about:
🍀 Self-navigation in the job market in times of AI,
🍀 The world of BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, Incomprehensible),
🍀 Why we need to be our own Zen masters to manage our attention.
Ross is so knowledgeable and modest! It was great time and I hope this episode can also be useful for many people worried about their future.
The truth is: if you can manage yourself, you can manage anything.
ANYTHING.
