Last week, the Lions for the Blind sponsored a field trip to Bird Bowl Bowling Center for our Senior Group Activities (SGA) participants. With almost 40 of our senior clients attending, this was one of our most popular field trips! 🎳
On the field trip, senior program participants who are visually impaired and blind were guided by Lions Club members and Bird Bowl staff to play a fun and competitive game with one another, with everyone getting a chance to have a hands-on bowling experience and roll the ball.

Our monthly SGA field trips are a blast, giving clients a chance socialize and create community, while experiencing a world that is inclusive and supportive of their disability.
Did you know? Our SGA program is the only program in Miami-Dade County that provides essential vision rehabilitation services and independent living skills for adults aged 55 and older who are blind or visually impaired. Going far beyond mitigating against the impacts of one specific disability, our SGA program provides resources for rebuilding skills, fostering confidence, and creating a community.
SGA provides meticulously designed therapies that empower seniors to live with dignity and confidence. For example, on any given day at Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, you might find a group of SGA seniors working with clay, using their hands while actively re-learning the fine motor skills that are essential for reading Braille, while in another room, a grandmother learns to use a screen reader that allows her to email her grandchildren for the first time in years.
