Based on work by @HebblewhiteLab and others, a dry autumn is BAD news for the overwinter survival of some ungulates. We expect higher mortality in early 2023 #SIMDeer if this keeps up. Its so important to invest in long term studies to understand these issues.@HCTFBC @FES_BC
Discharge across Southern BC WSC gauges is about 40% lower in 2022 relative to the same time period in recent years. However, flow in many spawning streams is over 90% lower than seasonal averages.
