There will be gluten-free sour cream cake donuts (with lavender petal, bee pollen, and lemon zest sprinkles) at
@brentalderfer’s Spring Creek Farm today and tomorrow. You can enjoy an organic chocolate chunk cookie if you have time to stop by their farm market too. I am going to make a (gf) white chocolate glazed macadamia donut with rose petal and lemon zest sprinkles next week for SCF. I have fun making the garden flavored donuts. 🍩
I enjoy being able to go out to the community garden while I rent Ascension Lutheran Church’s kitchen. I can’t wait for the cosmos to become full and lush in a few weeks. I can have a completely free garden each season if I save my own seeds (which I do), but there are lots of friends—Spring Creek Farm,
@MorvenMuseum, and
@WholeFoods—who have been kind to me, so I bought their veggie starts to be kind back this season. It’s fun to support each other.
Since I decided to support these local businesses, I have dozens of tomato plants that I started on my own. I asked the community garden manager at ALC if there is an extra empty plot, and I might maintain the extra plot to give tomatoes to ALC’s food pantry collection. Once I get the plants into the ground it’s just a matter of watering them, so why let the seeds I started go to waste?
My dream since moving here is to have a peony farm in
#BucksCounty. There is a rancher home near where I live, and I stopped by one day to see if they were interested in selling it. They explained that, yes, they do have 3 acres of land. But no, they don’t want to sell their home. 🤷♀️🙂 Spring Creek Farm sells local peonies from Brent’s property in the meantime. The 2nd/3rd weeks of May are always my favorite because it’s when peonies bloom in Bucks County.
Have a great weekend, and I hope you find time for coffee and pastries (or in my case, meat on the grill).
