They use 2 2=4 as shorthand to refer to what they see as a natural order- tidy, clear-cut, God given. Take away the 2 2=4 and that allows questioning the rest of the perceived natural order

#takebackmath is a fascinating set of tweets to read. I'd worry about these people but anyone who thinks math is racist will ignore road signs ("Katonah exit 1 mile") and odometers and eventually drive into a lake or off a cliff and it'll work out for the rest of us.

that's why people reference "2 2=4" in racist, anti-trans, anti-queer talk, ETC. because in their view, opening up math & how we teach it would imply a challenge to a natural order they hold as sacred, one in which white ppl & usually men are at the helm #takebackmath

Here's another: Repeat, ON LOOP, "of course math is neutral because 2 2=4." Rely on that supposed axiom to then target ppl (& especially women) for coordinated ridicule/harassment. Never stray from this LOOP because it's an easy one to engage every Tom Dick & Harry to engage

2 2=4 is shorthand for the take that math is objective (and not a cultural product).No textbook says what is quoted here, but there are curricula that open up math as a cultural product and center students as learners. This is what these ppl in FL are objecting to. #takebackmath
