this would happen much less if you used gpt-5-pro and the recommended repoprompt flows.
for your codebase you need full power, even gpt-5-high does not think long enough and I thinkpro does a tree search not just think longer .
the flow is :
- use codex to gather context or the new repoprompt context builder (compresses context to 60k tokens)
- send it to gpt-5-pro to make a detailed plan (using xml apply for chatgpt or api if you have free tokens)
- depending on complexity ask gpt-5-pro for concrete implementation using xml edit , or xml pro edit (a mix of targeted and agentic edit) or ask claude code to implement (if the change is big but not hard)
