The bigger issue that I see is that no one is reporting on the connections/intersections of Teachers College/Lucy Calkins/Heinemann & Co. causing increasing and unnecessary strain on special education services — for which reading failure is the number one reason that students are referred for special education services evaluations — many referrals are children with dyslexia, but how many are casualties of Calkins’s #UnitsofStudy and 3-cueing? 🤨 Not to mention the number of educrat-paid social media influencers on here that label 'dyslexia Moms' “privileged”, “White Saviors”, “Karens", et al derogatory stereotypes when, in truth, most of us are unaffiliated volunteer advocates for Structured Literacy and EACH child’s right to read, because of the traumas and injustices our children endure/endured in most public schools — we were the primary influencers for Emily Hanford’s crusade into the #ScienceofReading. Thank you for this reporting, Dana. I just finished listening to the podcast and I feel sick. As one of the squeaky wheel 'dyslexia Moms' #onhere who’s regularly attacked over my volunteer advocacy for Science of Reading and called nasty stereotypes like “White savior”, a “Karen”, et al for it, Lucy doesn’t even come close to saying what she must say, in my opinion — i.e., I’m sorry, and I will dedicate my ill-gotten profits to eradicating the #LiteracyCrisis that I created with @Columbia, @TeachersCollege, @TCRWP, @HeinemannPub, et al. Lucy’s comments on her incalculably harmful, debunked junk, #UnitsofStudy, are akin to Randi’s comments on her outsized influence over prolonged COVID-related school closures — zero remorse from two wealthy-by-taxpayer-funding frauds and false prophets. They both belong behind bars for life for their crimes against children, in my opinion.

The AIR study of @tcrwp #unitsofstudy was disappointing. Small effects with a cherry-picked sample. The findings don’t apply to the vast majority of schools (who don’t receive annual Lucy PD). No compelling reason why schools should have been booted from the analysis.
