I had multiple SIM cards before I had any certification. Not for what you're thinking. For midnight data. There was a boy in Iyesi, Sango Otta, who couldn't afford to be online during the day. So I stacked MTN SIMs and waited for midnight bundles. While most people slept, I was downloading courses, watching tutorials, breaking things and fixing them, teaching myself cybersecurity one cheap-data night at a time. By morning the bundle was gone, and I'd be counting down to the next midnight. Nobody handed me a roadmap. No mentor, no paid bootcamp, no budget for certifications. Just curiosity, a laptop, and a stubborn belief that where I was from didn't have to decide where I was going. Fast forward, I now work in cybersecurity, and I founded @CyberProwess: a community built for the exact person I used to be. And now we're opening the doors. ๐Ÿš€ The @CyberProwess July Cohort is here. This is for the ones learning on borrowed Wi-Fi and midnight bundles. The ones with the mind for this field but not the money for courses that cost more than their family earns in months. No fancy budget required, just bring the curiosity and the stubbornness. We'll handle the roadmap I never had. What you get: โœ… Structured cybersecurity training from the ground up โœ… Mentorship and a community that actually answers your questions โœ… Hands-on practice, not just theory โœ… Certificate of Completion The boy who waited for midnight grew up. Now he's making sure the next one doesn't have to wait alone. ๐Ÿ“… Cohort starts July 2026 ๐Ÿ”— Join the waitlist here ๐Ÿ‘‰ cyberprowess.org/training โณ Spots are limited โ€” 100 seats only. Tag someone who needs to see this. ๐Ÿ‘‡ #Cybersecurity #CyberProwess #TechInNigeria #SangoOtta #CyberSecurityTraining

I spoke at the Ubuntu Bridge Initiative on Saturday. And the biggest barrier I see for people trying to get into cybersecurity isn't talent. It isn't intelligence. It isn't even time. It's the belief that you need money to start. It's the belief that you can't start from where you are right now. So this is for everyone in that room, and everyone who wasn't. You don't need a boot camp. You don't need to pay anyone. You need a direction and free tools that already exist: โ†’ Professor Messer (YouTube) youtube.com/@professormesser โ€” free, complete fundamentals. Start here to understand how networks and systems actually work. โ†’ OverTheWire (Bandit) youtube.com/playlist?list=PLโ€ฆ โ€” learn Linux by hacking your way through it. Levels 0โ€“20, and you'll be dangerous in a terminal. โ†’ TryHackMe tryhackme.com โ€” guided beginner rooms. You learn by doing, not just watching. โ†’ PortSwigger Web Security Academy, portswigger.net/web-security โ€” the best web security training on the internet. Built by the people behind Burp Suite. Still free. โ†’ picoCTF, picoctf.org/ โ€” capture-the-flag challenges that teach you to think like an attacker. Total cost: $0. The only thing it really costs is consistency, showing up when nobody's watching, and the excitement has worn off. I show up to events like the Ubuntu Bridge Initiative for one reason: the talent in our community isn't the problem. Access is. And access to learning should never depend on your bank balance. Save this. Then tag one person who keeps saying they "can't afford" to start. This one's for them. ๐Ÿ‘Š

You don't need a $15,000 bootcamp to break into cybersecurity. I'll say it louder for the people in the LinkedIn ads: you don't. I've interviewed people with shiny certificates who couldn't explain what happens when you type a URL into a browser. And I've seen self-taught folks run circles around them, built entirely on free tools. Here's where I'd start if I had zero budget today: โ†’ TryHackMe โ€” guided beginner rooms, you learn by doing โ†’ PortSwigger Web Security Academy โ€” the best web security training on the internet, and it's 100% free โ†’ OverTheWire (Bandit) โ€” learn the Linux command line by actually hacking โ†’ Professor Messer on YouTube โ€” free Security course, start to finish โ†’ picoCTF โ€” capture-the-flag challenges that teach you to think like an attacker Total cost: $0. Total excuses left: also $0. Save this. Then go open one of them tonight. What's stopping you from starting? Drop it below.

Security is often treated as a cost until a breach exposes the real price of neglect. The strongest companies today donโ€™t see cybersecurity as an expense. They see it as: โ€ข brand protection โ€ข customer trust โ€ข operational stability โ€ข long-term business growth A single security incident can impact reputation, revenue, and customer confidence far beyond the immediate technical damage. The cost of prevention will almost always be lower than the cost of recovery. As businesses continue to scale digitally, security can no longer be an afterthought. It has to become part of the growth strategy from day one. #CyberSecurity #InformationSecurity #CyberDefense #BusinessSecurity #RiskManagement #CyberAwareness #SecurityLeadership #DigitalTransformation #CyberResilience #TechLeadership

You complain that MTN is making so much money from data. You say GT and Zenith are ripping us of with bank charges. You cry that Dangote cement is skyrocketing. We say oya buy shares in those companies so you can also take a tiny bit of the profit they are making. You say no.
