When I was a teenager I had a passion for making videos, I wanted to go into film and tv but when I tried to take the traditional eduction route I quickly realised it was a failing system The teachers were underpaid, didn’t care enough, under resourced and quite frankly weren’t really skilled enough to actually provide me with the level of eduction I needed to persue my passion So I turned to YouTube where I found millions of free, highly eductional tutorials that taught me everything I needed to know, I spent 3 years between the age of 13-16 on YouTube every night learning how to use different softwares, how to edit videos, cinematography, how to tell stories etc All of which are things a traditional eduction in tv and film never even attempted to teach me, 12 years on I’ve built an entire career with the knowledge I learned from free YouTube tutorials, bought a house from that knowledge and contributed substaincially to both the economy and the tax fund in this country Banning YouTube for U16s does far more damage than it does good to the next generation, it takes away their ability to learn and grow outside of the boundries of a government approved education system and puts the country at risk of falling even further behind the rest of the world than we already are in terms of inovation
🚨 NEW: YouTube has hit out at the UK's social media ban for under-16s "YouTube is a vital resource for young people, educators and parents. Blanket bans push kids out of such curated, supervised, beneficial experiences and towards anonymous, less safe services"

The gulf in understanding between tech illiterate people and the actual teenagers affected about what social media provides and how it works is staggering. Not to mention the top-down moralising, the judgement and the assumption that it's all 'mindless scrolling'

They all sound so fucking thick banging on about AI like it is a magic wand solution for all of their grand failings to actually govern

Today I am calling on you to pause that game now —no I don’t care if it’s online or whatever just pause it now — because dinner is ready and your mum has worked bloody hard today
This government will not stand by while children are put at risk online. Today I am calling on the tech companies to introduce device-level controls to prevent children from taking, sharing or viewing nude images. And if they don’t act, we will.

Jess Phillips resigned from gvnt May 12 citing Starmer's failure to act on this specific measure. lbc.co.uk/article/keir-s… Technology like this requires blanket ID vertification to take vetted photos. Kids easily verify as adults rendering measures useless while curbing liberty for everyone else. eff.org/pages/uk-onlin… thedailyeconomy.org/article/califo…

100%. Storyboarding is about evoking a feeling, inspiring with a specific vision yet leaving room for discovery, expertise and improvement by each department that follows, not presuming to fill in gaps that would make, say, an art director feel constrained.
this is what #real storyboarding looks like #uncwashed

New behind the scenes footage of the neighborhood that was filmed in for ‘BACKROOMS’.

Its worldbuilding is unfortunately more compelling than its characters but Backrooms IS the real deal. It’s basically a whole mythology that is *from* young people, not inherited like so much IP they are told to care about because their parents liked a movie once.

And there is no solution, no beginning no end, not a clear sense of malice or benevolence, just existence without purpose. Horror has always satirised this (Dawn of the Dead) but this specific interpretation speaks so well to the frustration of unused spaces.

The irony that in 1977 a mythology that spoke to young people is desperately being revived this week, as Backrooms openly mocks the idea of half-remembered mutated copies, doesn’t bullshit, and is eating SW’s lunch when it comes to reaching a young audience.

This should be a scandal to bite back everyone on the arse who let this stall so badly. It’s just pathetic
It costs more to build a train from London to Birmingham (£102.7 bn) than for NASA to return to the moon (£100 bn) England is so broken.

Because we should leave one part of the town free of sports for those who want to avoid it.

Why haven’t cinemas in the UK not pivoted to showing football n other sports? They’re always empty. Beer tap by the screen, home n away sections. Would be decent I reckon

Everything should be animated. Live action shouldn't exist.

It's a shame that Disney has one philosophy of restoration---cleaning their films within an inch of their lives so that the seams vanish, like they were never even objects that were filmed (which is more incredible than the sanitised platonic ideal they rework them as)
Alice in Wonderland 75th Anniversary Raw Scan vs New Restoration Comparison. @Disney

I know this has been their way of doing it for years and it's unlikely to change. They've even adjusted the colour of iconic scenes to match modern marketing expectations, so claiming any restoration as 'definitive' is something to take with a pinch of salt.
