One of the fascinating things about life is how time feels compressed when you look back. I realised I haven’t been in this part of the world for exactly 13 years! Japan and Korea are different, but there’s something similar in the spring air. Thanks, #CHI2025

Well, 12 years, but still quite a lot :-D

I am just wondering, how many of us are now starting our road to #chi2025 in Japan? I am also packing, and here are some spaces where you can catch me at the venue (Thread in the comments, as it becomes quite a long story :))

14. Bonus topics: a) If you want to know more about this year's @EuroUsec conference, you are more than welcome to catch me at any given moment! b) The same if you want to know more about THEIA-XR EU project - please, send me a message and we'll definitely have time for that

13. As always, I am particularly interested in: a) Ethical topics in emerging tech (specifically in a working context); b) Manipulative technologies, especially in the voice and XR domains c) Misinformation and defence against misinformation in digital domains!

12. Apart from these days/papers, I'll for sure go to LBW session (I know some amazing people presenting their works here, Anna Leschanowsky, take five if you read it!); but I don't have yet time to dive into the whole pool of papers to make my complete path through.

11. I would love to join the Security in HCI session, where Xiaowei Chen presents an honourable-mention systematic review "Beyond Deterrence: A Systematic Review of the Role of Autonomous Motivation in Organizational Security Behavior Studies" (Chen, Schöni, Distler, Zimmermann)

10. It is an extremely cool paper, showing that Community Notes (apart from useful information hints) can also provide a fantastic way to shame people. As more and more platforms currently implement this mechanic, I think our paper becoming even more relevant

9. 30th of April : Social Media and Online Influence session, where @yuweichuai will present our paper about Community Notes and Moral Outrage: "Community Fact-Checks Trigger Moral Outrage in Replies to Misleading Posts on Social Media" (Chuai, Sergeeva, Lenzini, @NicProllochs)

8. The title of the paper is: “Hey Genie, You Got Me Thinking about My Menu Choices!” Impact of Proactive Feedback on User Perception and Reflection in Decision-making Tasks, and it is quite an interesting paper in our continued collaboration around voice for persuasion topics
69
7. 29th of April: I'll be in a journal session, where @MattyD_IR will present our paper on voice-based agents' modes of interaction in decision-making (Dubiel, @luileito , Bongard-Blanchy, Sergeeva).

6. In this paper, we are trying to decompose the current status quo with critical thinking approaches in AI for critical thinking/decision-making studies - the topic I really like to discuss in detail (and find other grumpy people sharing similar concerns).
60
5. In the same workshop, I will present another positioning piece called "THE GOAL: Misalignment Between the Measured Metrics and the Nebulous Concept of Critical Thinking in Joint Decision-Making" (written by me and Elena Sergeeva, so it is sort of family business :))
65
4. We are discussing 360-degree misinformation interventions and showing some funny ideas we are currently working on! @HuiyunTang73 has a fascinating holistic view of intervention designs, so if you are doing something in the domain, let's cross-chat on it!
52
3. 26.04 Our PhD student @HuiyunTang73 presents a "Shots and Boosters: Exploring the Use of Combined Prebunking Interventions to Raise Critical Thinking and Create Long-Term Protection Against Misinformation" on "Human-AI Interaction for Augmented Reasoning" workshop.

2. In our case, we would rather discuss how to ensure the XR affordances will NOT make the situation worse, but engaging in a full discussion about the topic will be great! :))
54
1. 26.04: My colleague Claudia Negri Ribalta will present our workshop paper "Identifying Ethical Challenges in XR Implementations in the Industrial Domain: A Case of Off-Highway Machinery" on Purposeful XR: Affordances, Challenges, and Speculations for an Ethical Future Workshop
