What if Bash stole the best ideas from Docker, Make and Nix? Native support for containers and secrets; typed objects; declarative execution, sandboxed and cached by default... What if those were just standard shell features? 🤩 Well, we built it! Say hello to Dagger Shell. 🧵

This is blowing up. It looks like building Dagger from first principles is paying off. Dagger is a runtime for composable workflows. Sure it's great for CI. But it turns out AI agents also need more repeatable, modular and observable workflows - very badly! So here's the plan🧵
Just like we containerized webapps, we'll have to containerize AI agents... but how? What first principles led to containers in the first place, and how do they transpose to LLMs? This was my first talk at an AI meetup, but I doubt it will be the last! Recording 👇

What's holding your CI/CD DX to look like this? - Blazing fast caching ⚡️ - Local execution 🌍 - Go, Javascript/Typescript, Python, Rust & Exilir (exp.) SDK's 🧑‍💻 - Programmable pipelines ⌨️ - Container native 📦 - Beautiful TUI 🌈 @dagger_io

Your CI/CD pipeline should start on the developer's laptop. If it only starts after a git push, you're slowing your team down and throwing money down the drain. CI/CD "shift left" is the lowest-hanging fruit for engineering efficiency in teams of 20 engineers IMO.

Adopting Ruff for @dagger_io's Python SDK 100x speed-up. Real-time, in-editor feedback. Continuous upgrades. Fewer dependencies. So many cool things in here -- I want to call out a few of them... dagger.io/blog/ruff

Dagger moves to Ruff! 🗡️🗡️🗡️ I remember when @dagger_io launched, I couldn't stop nodding as I read through their manifesto (as someone who's lost so, so much time to CI/CD) 😂 Pumped to see them adopt Ruff!

Some of you will appreciate this. It sure blew my mind.. When @dagger_io runs a container, that container now has full Dagger API access. It can then run more containers, and so on AT ARBITRARY DEPTH. Infinite Dagger in Dagger 🤯 See for yourself: play.dagger.cloud/playground…

Ever wish your CI pipelines were regular containers orchestrated by regular Python code, rather than proprietary YAML? You could run it all locally, test it with your usual tools… Today is your lucky day! Introducing the Dagger Python SDK: docs.dagger.io/sdk/python/62…
