today i'm joining @lightspeedvp as Chief Marketing Officer. after doing thousands of IPOs at Nasdaq and building Redpoint's exceptional platform team, i've learned: it's not just one launch video. it's the relentless drumbeat that get you heard. and that's what i'm here to build for Lightspeed and our founders. let's make some noise!

most ai news isn't worth your time. you basically have to be unemployed to stay on top of it. there's just too much. the cycle never sleeps, and buried in the noise each week, there are a few things that actually matter. that's the premise of Lightwork, our new show. every week we make coffee, sit down, and cut seven days of ai and venture down to what's worth knowing. we do the heavy lifting. you get the light work. episode one drops soon. the second coffee is for someone you might know... if you guess right i'll buy you coffee ;)

thrilled to continue to partner with @suno on their series D, congrats @MikeyShulman and team!
Almost everyone has a song in their head, but very few people have the tools to bring it to life. That’s changing with @suno. @Lightspeedvp first invested in Suno’s Series B in 2024, and today we’re excited to participate in their $400M Series D. Since our initial investment, Suno has grown into a platform reshaping how people can express themselves. A simple line of text can generate an entire song. People are making songs for family birthdays and anniversaries, turning text messages into tunes for friends, transforming Slack messages into hits at company offsites. Suno is also being used in important ways to support medical treatment and healing. From therapists helping teens navigate mental health challenges through music creation, to personalized songs tied to memories and familiar voices helping elders with memory loss.  The examples and possibilities are endless. Congratulations to @MikeyShulman and the entire Suno team on this milestone. Lightspeed is proud to continue to deepen our partnership.

two years ago this was a contrarian bet today it’s the most valuable AI startup in the world
Two years ago, we first invested in @AnthropicAI's Series D. Today, we’re proud to continue that journey by participating in their $65B Series H round. @DarioAmodei, @DanielaAmodei, and the team are have been working to deliver products and infrastructure with the potential to reshape how people live and work every day. Since their last raise, Anthropic’s total post-money valuation has more than doubled, now reaching $965B As the company grows, so does its magnitude. Congratulations to the entire team on this milestone. Anthropic continues innovating at a pace that pushes the boundaries of what is possible with AI. Thrilled to finally be able to share more on our partnership with @reactorworld - the platform for building with real-time video and world models. @lightspeedvp first partnered with @taiuti @_bschmidtchen at seed, and more recently doubled down by leading their Series A. The way we generate and interact with media is changing rapidly, and Reactor sits at the forefront of this shift. @theamberyang and I share more on our partnership with the company here: lsvp.com/stories/the-develop…

lightspeed just hired its first creator-investor. her name is Claire Zau and she breaks the venture mold in exactly the way the industry needs right now. for years, venture firms have treated investing, platform, and content like separate lanes. investors write checks. platform supports companies. content makes the firm look alive online. but founders do not experience firms that way anymore. they diligence you before the first meeting. they know who has taste. who has reach. who understands the market. who can help them become known. and who is just hosting the same dinner in a different room. claire has already built trust with the next generation of ai founders. 230k on instagram. 100k on tiktok. a real point of view on early-stage ai and a voice of her generation now she’s joining @lightspeedvp to invest in pre-seed and early-stage ai companies, cover the most interesting deals across the ecosystem on social, and co-host something new coming soon…. not platform. not “content person.” not influencer-in-residence. investor creator. venture used to split those into two career paths. claire is what happens when they become one. welcome to lightspeed, claire.
I'm beyond excited to announce that I’m joining @Lightspeed as a Partner on the early-stage investing team and helping to build everything they're doing in new media. I've spent the last six years investing in early-stage companies, and the last year building a media platform in parallel. What started as a side quest has reached 350,000 followers and millions of viewers a month. For me, investing and storytelling have always been two halves of the same job. This work has put me in rooms with incredible founders, researchers, and operators - many of whom have become close friends, collaborators, and early stage bets. There's so much happening at the frontier right now, and the media platform has given me a way to be in those conversations early (and to bring the people I admire most into a wider audience). When Lightspeed reached out, we saw the same opportunity. Venture and media are converging, and the next generation of great firms will need to show up differently: reaching founders and builders before they've even started a company, and being the place where people first get excited about what's happening in tech. With more than $50 billion in AUM, Lightspeed has been building alongside founders at the frontier of technology for decades. It's a firm I've admired for years since I started investing - for its intellectual rigor, its long-term conviction, and the way it approaches company building. I’m excited to join a team that brings real depth and substance to its work, and I hope to bring that same ethos to everything I put out. Thank you to @ravi_lsvp, @bsomaia , and @Machiz for believing in this vision and trusting me to help build it. I’m so excited to see what we do together. If you're an early-stage founder, building or thinking about starting something, or just curious about this ecosystem - please reach out. My DMs are open and I’d love to chat!

f1 moves at lightspeed
The fastest-moving thing at @F1 Miami may have been the deal flow. TechCrunch captured how Formula 1 has become one of the biggest networking environments in tech, with founders, investors, and enterprise buyers crossing paths all weekend. As @Machiz shared, Lightspeed brought 10 portfolio companies directly into the paddock, where startup founders aimed to conduct real enterprise conversations and deals. At Lightspeed, we’re always looking for ways to get founders closer to customers, operators, and the people shaping what’s next. Sometimes that means meeting them trackside.

our job is to help founders meet more buyers. f1 miami was one of the densest rooms of enterprise cios and cisos we've put them in all year. appreciate @DominicMadori for the thoughtful piece

most enterprise software was built for a version of your business that no longer exists. @SriViswan left investing to found @SycamoreLabs when coding agents got good enough to make that a solvable problem. anyone in a company can describe what they need, get it built, and use software that improves every time it runs. we co-led the $65M seed. learn why on this new Investment Memo ep, full link in the comments

Lightspeed partner @buckymoore says early stage investing has gone from getting 15-20% in seed rounds to investing in a basket of companies from seed to Series A, and ending up with ownership in the low teens: "Right now I think early stage is in this tricky place, where for a seed round, you're generally getting around 10% ownership for the most competitive rounds." "As a result, if you go back to what kind of made the early stage model work, it was owning somewhere between 15-20% of companies that become really valuable." "So the way you have to play this now, as a multi-stage firm, is you get the 10% in the seed, then you effectively have to be in a position to buy up in the Series A. But at the same time, the Series As are also ballooning in price, and there's really not a lot of de-risking because the velocity is so fast compared to even a couple years ago." "So right now what you see a lot is: you get 10% in the seed, the Series A happens somewhere between like 150 and in some cases 300 post, and then you end up trying to lead or co-lead that, and then you end up in the low- to mid-teens." "It's just a different time, but that's what it takes nowadays...I think what that means is you're building a basket of companies that tend to be in that low- to mid-teens ownership more often than not."
