Is Christopher Anderson claiming to know the nature of Catherine’s or the King’s cancer? Because that would raise an obvious question: where did that information come from? Medical information in the UK is confidential. Catherine certainly didn’t tell him, and neither would her close friends be entitled to share it. We already know there were allegations of attempts to access Catherine’s medical records. So journalists should be very careful about implying they have privileged medical information. “Knowing but not telling us” isn’t the ethical defence some seem to think it is. If genuinely private medical information has been improperly obtained somewhere along the chain, that’s the real issue.
