I was proud to cast my ballot in today's primary election. If you haven't voted yet, polls are open until 7:00 p.m. tonight. Be sure to get out and vote.

Police dogs and horses are trusted partners to law enforcement officers in some of the most dangerous situations. We are grateful for their service, and I was proud to sign legislation to ensure stronger protections for these animals and greater accountability for those who harm them.

President Trump needs a Republican Congress to continue pursuing conservative policies that make our nation stronger. I am confident that one day South Carolina’s congressional delegation will be completely Republican. I am disappointed that day has not yet come. With the Senate’s vote today, it is clear that South Carolina will not have a new congressional map for the 2026 election. It is time for South Carolinians to go vote confidently in a safe and secure election for the June 9 primary. And it is time for the General Assembly to return in its extra session to pass a budget for the coming fiscal year. As in all elections, I encourage our citizens to exercise their precious right to vote, especially during this 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

On Memorial Day, we honor the bravery of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and secured our freedom.

The Governor directs that the flags atop the State Capitol, state buildings, and buildings of the political subdivisions be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Friday, May 15, 2026, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

I have issued an Executive Order calling the General Assembly back for an extra legislative session to address the state budget and congressional districts beginning Friday, May 15, at 11:00 AM.

Today, we broke ground on the Robert Smalls monument. Robert Smalls helped shape our state and our country through his courage, leadership, and service. This monument will stand as a permanent tribute to a life that changed the course of history.

The General Assembly still has two full days in which to finish its important work, including giving full consideration – as sought by the people – to the important question of redistricting. I urge the General Assembly to finish its work according to the U.S. and South Carolina constitutions and the best interests of the people.

South Carolina mourns the tragic loss of Greenwood Police Department Officer Don “DJ” Keller, who was killed in the line of duty yesterday. Peggy and I ask South Carolinians to join us in praying for his loved ones and the Greenwood community. In honor of his sacrifice, I will order the flags above the Statehouse to be lowered to half-staff on the day of his funeral.
