Day 7 of #50daysofchondrichthyan is the Sphenodus macer, a shark-like neoselachian with uncertain phylogenetic placement. Its bauplan is similar to the cow shark but this species has a wide jaw and enlarged pectoral fins

Day 6 of #50daysofchondrichthyan is the serrated giant thresher shark; Alopias palatasi. Only known from isolated teeth but its tooth morphologies indicate that it might had similar lifestyle to the great white shark

Ever heard of the collared carpetshark (Parascyllium collare)? This little shark, found off eastern Australia, lives deep near rocky reefs and grows to just 85 cm. Despite its mysterious nature, it’s thriving—thanks to its untouched habitat and high survival rates.
