As a Christian, I donโt like to celebrate the destruction of โpaganโ art. This is masochistic to me: the mutilation of Europeโs own self-image, the universal held over against the particular as some kind of blunt weapon.
As the universal faith, Christianity must be magnanimous enough to metabolize the stories, habits, and aesthetics of the pagan world without being subdued by them. Christianity is not a rival religion to the various European pantheistic faiths and shouldnโt be treated as such.
