1/3 After consideration, we have decided to pause Horned Things Literary Journal. We do not make this decision lightly. The most recent issue of the journal was delayed and discussions of possible inactivity stalled things further until we ultimately decided not to do issue 3.
2/3 The editors have taken on new jobs and become involved with other journals. We do not want to do all journals the disservice of spreading our attention too thin. Additionally, threats from those whose work we have rejected (something we never expected) has become too regular.
3/3 We want to thank all of our readers and the contributors & readers we’ve had. Our site will remain up to showcase the original issues and the work therein. In fall of 2024, however, our website name will default to hornedthings.wordpress.com.
Chestnut Review is seeking volunteer poetry readers to join our staff! If you want to gain experience reading for us, we'd love to read your application.

I wrote a story about urban legends, podcasts, and perfectionism, and it found a home at the lovely @hornedthings! So honored to be included in Issue 2 💕 rebrand.ly/boorish
ALT A collage of photos of people wandering around in the woods. In the center is a quote from "Boorish": "Documenting a real-life cryptid hunt via the magic of audio storytelling? Somewhere, Ira Glass is cursing himself for not thinking of this first."
Issue two of Horned Things literary journal will be released tomorrow, February 2, 2023. We are so excited to share this new issue with you. Issue two includes some fabulous poetry, prose, and quite a lot of visual art.
To those who have submitted- we are getting through the last of our queue. If you haven’t received a response, it means we’re taking extra time to discuss. Additionally, Submittable is having a glitch right now that may cause the wrong name to appear in messages. We apologize!
Happy new year! Horned Things is behind schedule on getting our second issue out but rest assured we are working on it. We’re always accepting free submissions via email at hornedthings@gmail.com. May the new year bring you plenty of creative inspiration. 🎉
