This will be the 4th weekend in a row with a movie opening above $40M, only the second such streak this decade after May-June 2023. With Toy Story 5, Supergirl, Minions 3, Moana, and Odyssey all ahead, we should end up with nine weekends of $40M openers in a row (a new record).
Disclosure Day earned an estimated $19.02M on Friday from 3,824 domestic locations and is projected to gross $44M in its opening weekend. the-numbers.com/movie/Disclo… #disclosureday #stevenspielberg #emilyblunt #boxoffice

Floyd Norman is only the fourth animator to receive an Academy Honorary Award (not for a film) following, Walter Lantz, Chuck Jones and Hayao Miyazaki. Well deserved!

Glenn Close and Ridley Scott are among the artists set to receive honorary #Oscars at the 2026 Governors Awards. Also being honored: Floyd Norman, Disney’s first Black animator, and veteran producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler. wp.me/pc8uak-1lHmLT

I AM FRANKELDA reminds me of the early Tim Burton days. Messy, dark, but detailed, full of unending creativity. Each frame is so full to the brim with gorgeous, creepy design. An imaginative ode to storytelling, and a tale of art taking on a life of its own. Well worth a watch.

It’s shot with deep focus, letting the art and scenery overwhelm you, and draw in your eye. The world-building sometimes bites off more than it can chew, with an unexpectedly dense narrative. But the beauty of Frankelda’s love of storytelling is engrossing nonetheless.

DISCLOSURE DAY is not at all what I expected. Less action thriller and more existential discourse on the unifying power of truth, with the storytelling prowess of Spielberg. Both opaque and intimate, there are layers I need to unpack in future viewings, but a thrill nonetheless.

Emily Blunt soars with a challenging role, but holds the film together in its tricky walk. The tone swings wildly in a hundred directions in ways I’m not sure always connect, but it builds to something undeniably stirring. I can’t wait to see it again.

remember when Affleck and Damon implemented a clause in the crews’ contracts that they’d get a bonus if it did well on Netflix?? Artists Equity is probably smaller than Blumhouse, so what’s stopping Blumhouse-Atomic Monstrr from doing the same?
below the line crew earning $300/day (or acting as unpaid volunteers) on a production while sharing in none of the $200m profit of a runaway b.o. success*is* actual exploitation, even if it's normalized in the industry.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE builds out a surprisingly thorough universe, over-the-top and cartoonish in the best way. It embraces the fantasy, and delivers solid action with big scope. You can feel the comedy punch-up, but there’s enough earnest fun here to work. A good time!

And for the record, I have no nostalgia for He-Man. So any Easter eggs or callbacks went fully over my head. But they found a way to make the toyetic nature of this world make enough sense without feeling forced.
