Got a PR merged into pytorch/torchtitan
CI was failing — torchcomms manages TP process groups outside c10d registry, so torch.compile couldn't resolve them at runtime
skipped the flavor to unblock CI until the real fix lands in torchcomms

Gave an OA today, was asked to implement K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm from scratch
got the core logic working fine and most test cases passed but one hidden test case kept failing no matter what i did

then out of frustration i tried something random
i was doing train-test split FIRST and then scaling with StandardScaler
switched the order — scaled the data FIRST, then did the split
that one failing test case passed.. all test cases green

i still don't fully know why that fixed it but i think it's data leakage
when you split first then scale, the scaler only sees training data so test data gets scaled slightly differently scaling first makes everything uniform
lesson learned: always scale before splitting

Been opening PRs in production grade ML repos like pytorch,litellm,transformers.
Learned: bug fixes sound easy until two people already abandoned them. The real work is understanding why something is broken.

Random CV on time series = data leakage. Model trains on Nov, tests on Oct. It sees the future.
TimeSeriesSplit fixes this — train on past, test on future only, Switched to it mid-project. Validation loss jumped, predictions got real.
Worse CV score. Better model.
