Letter from the IRS says we have part of our refund coming through mail.
After we pay off debts/invoices we do plan to have some amount left over.
What I want to do is when that time comes we’ll poll the community and agree as a group what the move continuing forward is, as the original vision likely needs to be heavily altered, or pivoted entirely.
Just wanted to give an update.

Kickbacks' flaw isn't going to be Anthropic or OpenAI killing it - it's the market.
Supply scales with every install, but ad demand for this format doesn't, so CPM death spirals as the thing grows.
Honest-dev inventory churns and growth stalls once the kickback becomes less and less meaningful value to honest-devs, but bots will stay at any price.
Therefore audience will degrade faster than the CPM does. Today they're getting driven by novelty budget - dev attention is high and bidders are buying the meme and the cycle of hype - that will exhaust as novelty wears off.
But for @andrewmccalip there's still a quick opportunity to make some pretty meaningful $ before the death spiral, so not a waste of time imo.
This feels like history echoing itself - dig into AllAdvantage from the dot com era where users got paid to surf with an ad bar on the screen. They did > $100m in member payouts but were dead by 2001.
Every ad biz that pays users to be the inventory automatically incentivizes for the users advertisers don't want - bots. Incentives and levers drive outcomes, this won't be different.
Solvable? Maybe, not sure - but right now feels like these dynamics will be tough to turn into a long term startup.

If we're able to ramp @HYTOPIA back up once we get our refund, seeing a polished / punchy multiplayer shooter like this on the platform could really be interesting for growth/user acquisition 🤔

As many of you know from weekly updates, HYTOPIA is currently waiting on a large tax refund from the IRS. Without these funds, we are unable to continue covering the operational costs required to keep the project running in its current state.
We expected this refund to be resolved sooner, especially as we have been in communication with the IRS and have confirmed that the process is underway. In the meantime, our founders, @Temptranquil and @ArkDev, have been personally funding the project's operations for some time in an effort to keep things moving.
At this point, we are forced to temporarily pause HYTOPIA's infrastructure while we wait for the funds to be released. This means hytopia.com and other HYTOPIA-related websites and services will be taken offline for the time being in order to reduce hosting and operational costs.
Separately, our lack of operational funding has also contributed to an ongoing dispute with the HY Foundation regarding unpaid invoices. As a result, certain token-related deliverables are currently delayed while we work toward a resolution. We are actively working to settle on an amount that makes sense for both parties and to have the tokens released into the smart contracts they were originally intended for.
As a reminder, the HY Foundation is a separate entity from HYTOPIA. While we are actively engaged in resolving the matter, there are parts of this process that are not entirely within our direct control.
We currently expect downtime to last roughly 1–3 months while the IRS refund process is completed. Once the funds are received, we will provide another update with a clearer plan for next steps.
We understand this is difficult news, and we know it may create frustration, uncertainty, and concern within the community. We are doing everything we can to navigate this responsibly and transparently. For now, we ask that everyone take it day by day with us.
As always, your support means everything to us.

Still playing around with ROUTE on the new @hytopia neo. And during the port, I also added in a new mode.. ROUTE 2! The same puzzle mechanic, but with a 2x1 rolling block. And blocks now float away in the water when they fall in. 😅
So... To understand the differences between the now open-sourced SDK of @hytopia and the newly released "neo" engine. I wanted to see if I could "port" my ROUTE game into the new engine.... ✅
