Excited to announce my appointment as Associate Director of UMBC's newly inaugurated ✨Institute of Politics! ✨
Working with @MileahKromer , our inaugural Director, I'm thrilled to imagine all the work to come @UMBC. Expert analysis, polling, student & faculty research, etc.!!
How can instructors teach the realities of political conflict without invoking partisan-ideological classroom breakdowns? @iganson invites us to the fictional world of "Genovia!"

Via @UMBC - Political Science's @iganson and his American voting behavior class conducted the 2024 UMBC Battleground Exit Poll, gauging attitudes of 1,119 Baltimore County voters

My students' final papers in my voting behavior course examined data from the @UMBC Baltimore Battleground Exit Poll we fielded.
They analyzed hypotheses relevant to our coursework. The #1 topic chosen by students (by an OVERWHELMING margin?)
The "diploma divide!"
Me on day 1 of intro to American politics:
"...And as Madison clearly articulated, nothing in the Constitution prevents the Federal government from trading a bunch of F-16s for a NFL franchise"
I appreciate a genuine "room where it happened" moment as much as anyone, and this is definitely one of those.
Huge deal for Maryland: protection for Prince Georges, new air wing, and Key Bridge funding!
Skilled legislating and deal making here by #TeamMaryland.
UMBC has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for innovative planning and and efforts to encourage nonpartisan voter engagement in the 2024 election and last month was named an ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/vpsa/…
Current crypto owners ultimately voted for Trump over Harris by a margin of 55-42. Non-crypto owners were tied.
This was the margin of difference in the popular vote. Crypto mattered at the ballot box, as we have been saying for years.
Thrilled to see this excellent writeup of results from our @UMBC Institute of Politics Battleground Exit Poll in the @BaltimoreBanner ! Thanks to Danny Nguyen for fantastic coverage!

With that, the UMBC Institute of Politics looks toward the legislative session.
Yes, of course, we're doing a legislative issues poll this spring.
Have any ideas for questions? My DMs are open.
All credit for this poll goes to our 60 intrepid @UMBC undergraduate students, who interviewed these real voters from 8am-8pm in early voting and on election day!
(Don't worry, they worked in shifts!)
Here are the results of the UMBC Battleground Exit Poll that @iganson and his team of students conducted:

A statewide pre-election poll and an exit poll...not too bad for an Institute of Politics that was founded in August 2024!

What do voters mean when they say 'the economy' is their top issue? UMBC political scientist @iganson says it's about prices and perception: wypr.org/show/on-the-record/…
I've watched college football for a long long time. It is a sport of inequality, with Goliaths endlessly punking Davids forever.
A story like #Indiana football 2024 like... Never happens. The losingest power conference team of all time by historical cumulative losses. Savor it!
Price levels and wages both increase
Price levels: feel sociotropic, outside of personal control
Wages: *feel* egotropic, attributed to one's own hustle (mostly not true)
It may feel uniquely frustrating to voters when your "own hustle" can't get ahead of "the dang groceries"
