May 5th, 1838 - the day Indians arrived in the Caribbean and landed in Guyana 🇬🇾 - the first of many such arrivals that brought them afterwards to Trinidad 🇹🇹 , Jamaica🇯🇲 and other islands. Roughly 80-85% of those indentured labourers were Hindu.

May 1st, 1857 is the day Indians arrived in Grenada. The island faced massive labour shortages after the Emancipation Act of 1833 freed enslaved Africans from the plantations. Some former slaves acquired land that took away from estate owners while others fled to nearby colonies.
