You could squeeze Elon for all he's worth today and you'll never see a trillion dollars out of it. His "net worth" is based almost entirely on his partial ownership of companies whose valuations are inextricably tied to his control over them. In other words, the goose does not have a trillion dollars worth of gold inside it. A trillion dollars is what people are willing to pay now for the right to get the golden eggs the goose is expected to lay in the future. The only way to get a trillion dollars out of Elon is to let him cook / let the goose lay eggs.

yeah, lets make everyone poorer!
Elon Musk just became the world’s first trillionaire. Let’s make sure he’s also the last.

the problem with socialists is that they think working hard or working a lot entitles you to the same compensation as someone that is way more productive
Elon Musk just became the world's first trillionaire. The typical American household would have to work more than 11 MILLION years to make Elon Musk's level of wealth. We need a wealth tax.

Does anyone else find it interesting that chat gpt launched in 2022 and there’s been no discernible boost in GDP anywhere in the world from ai productivity boosts.

This is the problem in europe, there is no incentive to get rich, at every single point they try to stop you, zero encouragement, and thus its no wonder no innovation is happening here We are a dead continent living on our past
If I were to move form Austria, I would need to pay a 27% exit tax (as it I sold all my assets before moving) If I had to live from Switzerland, I’d pay 0 For the US - also 0 for profits up to $910,000 It really doesn’t pay to be active and become rich in the EU (unless you are born rich ofc, we love those guys here)

"... the political left has long had a remarkable lack of interest in how wealth is created. As far as they are concerned, wealth exists somehow and the only interesting question is how to redistribute it." — Thomas Sowell

The comments are perfect way of how europeans see this view and why we will continue to stagnate
The Eurozone economy has now been stagnant for what, 20-25 years? Over regulation, heavy dependence on foreign energy sources has led to increased costs for businesses and households. Interest rate changes won’t solve anything.

Wow another example of regulations having unintended consequences Its almost like regulations are per se bad, and should only be approved in very extreme cases
Tech the EU didn't get on time 🇪🇺: Siri AI - delayed (DMA) AirPods Live Translation — delayed 3 months (DMA) Windows Copilot — delayed 6 mo (DMA) Threads — 5 mo late (DMA and GDPR) The hiatus between global and EU launch corresponds to a loss of EU consumer welfare.

Furlough (Kurzarbeit) is very popular in many European countries. But it does not reduce long-term unemployment, and prevents economic rejuvenation.
The different responses to Covid seem like an underrated cause of transatlantic divergence. Almost every European country paid workers to stay in their existing jobs, at the same time as tens of millions of Americans – a third of all workers in 2022 – switched to new ones.

Complaining about nightlife when you *checks notes* choose to live in Soho is like living in South Kensington and complaining about the museums.

Or moving to Hackney and grumbling about creatives. Living in Richmond and hating green space.

It's all getting a bit silly, isn't it?

The $SPCX IPO will make some cafeteria workers millionaires. It will make some ordinary engineers multi-millionaires. It has dragged several US regions that had hardly any economy into a new boom. And yet there are still politicians claiming that 'trickle down economics' does not work. It only does not work in places here you and unions fiddle with the free market and interfere with human ingenuity. Let. Them. Cook.

Germany is headed towards a perfect storm IMO as it has: 1) a special law that makes it a crime to insult politicians 2) AfD leading the polls & will eventually get into government 3) many convinced that it is their duty & right to insult & disrespect AfD
A majority of Germans think it should be a special crime to insult politicians

feudalism is unambiguously a net good for peasants. some estate that’s been in the same family since 1060 having labor obligations set at reasonable levels is not blocking prosperity but is keeping people employed and fed
rent control is unambiguously a net good for renters. some building that was built in 1960 having rents set at reasonable levels is not blocking any new housing but is keeping someone housed
